one day I'll forget my clothes and won't THAT be a sight!

Can you imagine? a lump of unclothed wobbly blubber on the bus to work...
*shudder*

I swear I'm losing my mind.
Or at least that part of it that reminds me to put my shoes on in the morning.

I regularly have those moments when I go to another room and have no idea why.
Seniors moment anyone?

I'll do the washing and forget to scoop the bathmat off the floor and toss it in with the towels.
Three weeks running now.
I may have to just toss it altogether and get a new one.

I'll put the kettle on, hang a teabag in the mug, then totally forget to make the tea.
Or I'll walk to the shop specifically for bread and come home with milk, chocolate, the paper...no bread!
Stuff like that.

Not a big problem....

But recently, I've been forgetting more important things such as my watch, my mobile phone....
On the way to work, I'll be out the door, locking it behind me, and realise that my watch is still inside.
Or my bottle of water.... or my book that I purposefully left out of my bag so that I can read it on the bus....
Easy enough to fix, just unlock the door again.....grab the missing item.

Last week, I was just beginning to walk down the path when I saw that I had the wrong shoes on.
White weekend sneakers instead of black work sneakers.
Well, at least I had shoes on!

Yesterday, I walked to the shop for bread and actually came home with bread!!

Okay, I wrote myself a note with "BREAD" on it...the plan was to make my sandwich after dinner, then put it in the fridge right beside the juice so I'd see it this morning and grab it, toss it in my bag, and not have to buy something to eat before my shift started.

The plan failed, as plans often do.

I got up with plenty of time to spare, used last night's left overs to cook a veggie omelette (fritatta) for breakfast, watched MacGyver, using the ad breaks to do things like make the bed, dry the shower, wash the frypan and plate.
Then I remembered that I wanted to post christmas cards this morning and the line in the Post Office was likely to be long, so if I didn't want to be late for work, I'd better get there a little earlier.

Turned off the TV, out the door, locked it behind me, made the earlier bus and got to the Post Office to find there was no line at all ahead of me.
I bought my stamps, posted my cards and went to work.
Where I had to buy something to eat before my shift started.

My sandwich?  Still in the fridge beside the juice.
Even worse? I'd forgotten my watch as well.
Two things in one day.

If this keeps up I may just forget to get out of bed by next week.

I know what's caused at least part of this.
Divorce and moving house.
Without the "walking on eggshells" stress, without the worry of "how the heck am I going to manage the rent if it goes up?", I'm much more relaxed.
So I've become a little slack about things, not feeling the need to be on top of everything all the time.
And it's making me a little forgetful.....

What am I doing in the kitchen?

  1. MacGyver is to blame. Radio is better where you can just tune in and tune out and still think about the day ahead and focus on what you need to take. Or take a very long morning shower where there are no distractions.

  2. It must run in the family. I've forgotten to buy tissues every single time I've gone into a store for the past three weeks.
I've been blowing my nose on toilet paper and napkins.

  3. I am forgetful too and sometimes wonder if there is something really wrong with me as I am relatively "young". So your experience is very much familiar. I often stand in the middle of the grocer to remember my purpose. And I love McGyver! Watched it as a child.

  4. There is always a current shopping list in our kitchen, but on the very rare occasions I've remembered to actually take it with me, I always check and recheck the list as I shop but still come home without a list item.
Perhaps people who always forget where they parked their car have more time to remember the shopping they forgot?

  5. I'm pretty sure it's all part of normal human activity..(if it's not, I'm stuffed too)

  6. Andrew; I don't have a radio. MacGyver is my "clock", from 7am to 8am is relatively free time to eat breakfast and clean up. after that the TV is off and I'm preparing my bag, getting shoes on etc. Without MacGyver I would never leave the house. Long showers waste water.

    no-one; ha ha!

Joni Llanora; we're all in the same boat then. I didn't discover MacGyver until I'd seen Richard Dean Anderson in Stargate.

FruitCake; when I take a list I don't forget anything, it's when I'm going out for just one or two things so don't think a list is necessary that I forget the most important item.

Tempo; I'd say we're all well and truly stuffed.

  7. I was forgetting things ten years ago so I'm well into it now. I remember years ago going to work in the winter, changing into my shoes, getting up to go to the mail room and wondering why I was limping. I thought I must have developed a condition overnight. Then I realized I was wearing one shoe from a pair of mid rise heels and one shoe from a pair of flats. These days hubby has to tell me I've wandered out the door in my slipprs.

  8. Hey, if being a 'little slack' about means is the side effects of bravely undertaking divorce, then ENJOY it, baby!

Oh and I've been a list-maker since high school or I'd be doing everything you're doing. Still do sometimes, even when I head to the shops with my list and come home without the bread. Or bandaids, cream cheese and apples.....

  9. Im so with Kath. I still march purposely into a room, and wonder why. If a little less stress leads you to forget things - let them go by. You will remember them later. And both your divorce and your move were/are capital G good things.

  10. Hi River,

You're not alone - my memory is like a sieve - and Mrs PM is so absent minded you wouldn't believe me if I told you.

    And I'm actually getting worse.

The things I could tell you about Mrs PM ...

    :0)

    Cheers

    PM

  11. I reckon you're just slightly absent minded because you're trying to do too many things at once or you could put it down to this time of the the year and you know what that is, its silly season :-).

  12. Delores; I've never worn odd shoes, that must have been really uncomfortable. I think I'm just taking advantage of the fact that I no longer HAVE to be on top of everything. There is nobody here depending on me.

Kath Lockett; I am enjoying being responsible for no-one but me.
Do you have a major list telling you where other lists are and what's on them? For instance I once had a diary with December 1st circled in red and the message Christmas List is in green notebook. That's crazy, right?

EC; just this evening I put the roll of gladwrap in the fridge...and the leftover pizza almost went in the drawer, because my mind was very far away.

Plasman; I don't think I'm quite at the sieve stage just yet.

Windsmoke; you may have hit the nail firmly on the head there.
