awww rats!!

I've just realised that with no icecream in the house, I can't make anymore milkshakes!

Which is probably a good thing, but I do love milkshakes.

Milk, flavouring and icecream. I'd like to personally thank whoever came up with this winning combination, but I suspect I'll have to wait until I pass on through those pearly gates.

My favourite flavour is chocolate, but I love pineapple milkshakes too.
What's your favourite flavour?

  1. Coming home from a trip yesterday we stopped for lunch at a chain restaurant that features milk shakes. My grandaughter thought hard and said she couldn't remember what a milk shake is. We took care of that at once.

When I was growing up, a quick bike ride to a deli on The Terrace for a coconut milkshake made with Golden North ice cream was probably as close to Nirvana as I ever got (now I have a real jonesing for one. Dont even know where I could get a milkshake here)

  4. Its Strawberry with skim milk which has no fat unlike full cream milk which is full of it. Are you using skim milk? :-).

  5. Joanne; a child who doesn't know about milkshakes is deprived indeed. I'm glad you completed her education with one.

Delores; I've never tried a butterscotch milkshake. I'm not sure we have that flavour here in Aus. I'll look for it next summer.

heptaparaparshinokh; coconut is another flavour I've never tried. places such as MacDonald's and Wendy's have milkshakes, but they're not quite the same as an old-fashioned milkshake. You can buy milkshake machines in many department stores, also Target and K-Mart in the summer and make your own milkshakes.

Windsmoke; I never liked a strawberry milkshake until I made my own with real strawberries. In my opinion skim milk is only suitable for pouring down the drain. I use Pura Light Start, high in calcium and only 1% fat.

  6. I like caramel and strawberry.
    Although not together!

  7. Blue heaven (just to be different).

Skim milk is for pimps, pornographers and estate agents.

  8. peskypixies; caramel is too sweet for me in a milkshake, have you tried strawberry with real berries? Yummo.

R.H. what exactly would be in a Blue Heaven milkshake?

  9. I love chocolate...when I was a kid our maternal grandmother was always there on Sundays (the only day we were allowed ice cream) The wonderful old lady hated chocolate so my parents NEVER bought it... Never! Deprived, Deprived I was! But I'm making up for it now.

  14. Snap, River!

I made a milkshake today - I wanted milk but also something really really cold for my throat.

I used espresso coffee icecream that we had languishing in our freezer. It's too strong to eat as icecream, but mixed with milk it was a perfect frappucino.

As a chocoholic, you'd think that chocolate milkshakes would be my favourite, but they're not. Usually I'll go for coffee, caramel or lime.

  15. Tempo; that's really sad. I remember my dad buying the "rainbow" icecream which was chocolate, strawberry and vanilla in the one tub. That way everyone had what they liked. I think your parents should have done that and given you chocolate while your grandma had vanilla.

R.H. it probably had artificial blue colouring which I'm allergic too, (just an itchy rash, nothing life threatening), so even if I ever see any, I won't be trying it.

Kath; Espresso coffee icecream! What a great choice! You know if an icecream is too strong you can have just a sliver with something less strong such as vanilla or a slice of chocolate cake....but frappucino sounds perfect when your throat needs something cool and creamy.

  16. I like what an icecream place in Philadelphia calls a Brown Cow: milk, vanilla icecream and chocolate syrup. Preferably malted. But in hot weather, I'd really rather a spider, which they call a float here in the US. Favourite kind of that is a root beer float, which is akin to sarsaparilla.

  17. Amanda; the brown cow is our chocolate milkshake, although sometimes I will use chocolate icecream. I remember many spiders from my childhood, mostly made with raspberry lemonade. I tried the coca-cola ones, but didn't like them.
