Sunday Selections #75

It's Sunday Selections time again!

Time to post photos that have been languishing in your files, just waiting for their chance to shine.
Brought to us by Kim, of Frog Ponds Rock, this is a weekly meme that anyone at all can join in with.

1. post your photos under the Sunday Selections title.
2. link back to Kim in your post.
3. go to Frog Ponds Rock site and add your name to the linky list.
4. leave Kim a comment.

I often do a theme with my photos, but it isn't necessary.
This week I bring you flowers that used to be in my old garden.

FLOWERS

Orange and yellow.
Labelled "French Marigolds", these tiny flowers came in a punnet of six in mixed colours.

I liked this red and yellow one the best.

The plain bright yellow ones were like little balls of sunshine.

And the bright orange blooms reminded me of fires and sunsets.

My Frangipani cutting, which I'd had such high hopes for,  produced only one flower, which didn't fully open and then died, just like all the others I'd tried to grow over the years. I've never had any luck with Frangipanis.

This gorgeous soft pink with a hint of gold was one of my favourites. I brought it with me and planted it in the rose garden that's here, but it's positively dwarfed by the big old bushes, most of which are as tall as me.

This white one was another favourite, (really, they were all favourites, every bush), I liked the way the blooms opened fully to show off the brightly coloured centres.

The centre of the white one. So pretty!

  1. At least you have photos of 'em so they won't fade from your memory. That's good news about your five year lease :-).

  2. I've always liked the marigolds...they are such tough little guys.

  3. I love the yellow and red marigold the best, it reminds me of a pair of slippers my Nana had when I was little and there were fabric marigolds on the toes in those colours.

  4. Windsmoke; I have photos of my entire old garden. I'm stoked about the 5 year lease!

Delores; I'm thinking a pot of these little flowers would brighten up my front porch here.

    Jayne; the slippers sound lovely!

  6. toushka lee; marigolds are always bright and cheerful.

    frogpondsrock; thank you.
I'm not sure about taking this. I don't even know how to do the linky thing.

    1. The linky thing is easy. you just need to sort out what link thing you want to use. But if you don't want to, it is okay.

  7. Front porches are made for pots of flowers.

  8. Adelaide is a bit cold for frangipanni I think. It will grow in Melbourne up against a north facing brick wall that retains the day time heat overnight.

  9. Wow, I'm usually not a flower person, but these are gorgeous!

  10. They're all beautiful, River and reminds me that I should be taking my camera out and doing something similar...

  11. Kim; I'll just continue putting up photos without doing a link. Others could do the same....

Joanne; trouble is my front porch is about 1 square metre and already has four largeish pots. I could put a few smaller pots down the side of the flat.

Andrew; many Adelaide gardens have well established Frangipani. I remember trying to grow them in Brisbane and Sydney as well, no luck. It's just not meant to be.

Catherine ex oh mwah! they're really bright little things and tiny too, so they don't take up much space.

Kath Lockett; yes please, take your camera for a walk, I'm sure it's feeling a little neglected and unloved.

  12. CarrieBoo; they're self-seeding too. If you plant them in a garden bed and don't want them to spread, you need to snip of the dead flower heads.
