Sunday Selections #101

Welcome back to Sunday Selections!

This once-a- week-meme was originally begun by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, as a way to showcase some of the many photos we all take, but don't get around to showing on our blogs.

The rules are very simple:-
1. post photos of your choice, old or new, under the Sunday Selections title
2. link back to me, River, somewhere in your post
3. leave me a comment so that I know you've joined in and can come over and see what you've posted.

I usually go with a theme for my Sunday Selections and this week my theme is >>>>

WHITE

The photo doesn't really do justice to this white jet stream which was brilliantly lit by the early morning sun.

The agapanthus outside my flat are white.
(the rest of the gardens have blue)

Pretty aren't they?

Here's a close up of one of the many florets that make up one agapanthus head.

White cockatoos feeding at the top of the pine tree.

this crowd of cockies was about two dozen, the biggest I've seen in quite a while.

Usually they fly away as soon as I aim the camera, this time, they stayed in the tree while I ran home to get it. Guess they were hungry.
Can anyone tell me the collective name for a bunch of cockies?

To finish with, some white roses.

Comments

  1. I love white flowers. Those agapanthus are gorgeous. Can't wait to start gardening again.

  2. Just like you we have both white and blue agapanthus out the front in full bloom, sadly they don't last too long. How does a Gaggle of Cockies sound?.

  3. I checked with my friend, Google, for a name for a flock. While I did not find it, speed reading the vast amount of literature available on cockatoos, I did learn they are not early risers; they like sun warmed feeding grounds. Sounds a lot like me.

  4. Great photos. It looks like plane has gone straight down and crashed. I can think of a four letter word ending with k for a collective noun for cockies, but I will keep it nice.

  5. Our clear skys are great for seeing those contrails, jets going west or north seem to fly right over Whyalla. Agapanthus bring back memories of my Nan who had a wonderful garden despite living in a desert, and those damn cockies...(dont get me started)LOL

  6. Molly; I like them better than the blue ones.

Windsmoke; I haven't noticed just how long they last or don't last, I just enjoy them while they're here. It's probably a Flock of Cockies, just like most birds are a flock.

Joanne Noragon; our cockies seem to like feeding around 8-9am, I guess that's warm enough for them.

Andrew; that's because I pointed the camera straight overhead. Judging by the direction, it was headed to Melbourne.

Tempo; I like watching the different directions of the planes and saying that one is going to Melbourne, or Sydney or even Brisbane, depending on how close to the hills the trails are. Agapanthus must be one of those survivor plants that do well pretty much anywhere. I couldn't leave a comment on your jokes yesterday, my computer connection dropped out again.

  7. I don't believe there is a specific name for a flock of cockatiels...
    We call agapanthus, hummingbird flowers..

  9. I am sorry that computer woes stopped me from joining you this week. Nest week - next year!!! I love your white post. White agapanthus are lovely. I once saw some pink ones - which I would love to grow, but have never seen them in the shops.

  10. Elephant's Child; pink agapanthus!! They'd be lovely. If you see some again, maybe ask the gardener if he could divide a section off for you? Or try a specialty nursery.
