Wednesday's Words on a Friday

On Wednesdays, Delores, from A Feathered Nest has a meme which she calls Words for Wednesday.

She puts up a selection of six words which we then use in a short story, if we are able.
Sometimes I look at her words and nothing at all comes to  mind.

This week's words are:

1. space
2. peace
3. shelves
4. dark
5. lamplight
6. leather

Here is my short story.

Alex let herself into the dark house, switching on the hall light as she went in. After leaving her coat and gloves on the hall stand she walked into the newly finished living room.
Alex flipped the switch and sighed with satisfaction as she gazed around. There was nothing in this room that she hadn't chosen herself.
Two of the walls were lined with books, a colourful Navajo rug lay on the floor and the soft lamplight created a welcoming glow by the deep leather sofa and reflected back off the polished boards that made up the bookshelves.
This was her space, her own peaceful sanctuary away from the hectic life at the office.

  2. Boy, you can string the words together beautifully!!! You should start writing short stories or even a novel!!!

  4. Both you and Delores really nailed these words today. Thank you - and yes, you should start that novel. Please.

  5. Delores; I have the leather couch and the lamplight, but no longer have the walls of books or a colourful rug. But the space is all mine.

mm; I've thought about short stories but I fear they would all be the same. A novel is beyond me.

Mimsie; thank you. I looked over at my couch with the lamp in the corner and the words just came to me.

Elephant's Child; A paragraph I can do. A novel? no way.

  8. Kath Lockett; true, but tying the paragraphs together can be tricky :(
Maybe a book of one-paragraph short stories? :)
