What irritates you Monday

What irritates you Monday is a meme thought up by Delores from The Feathered Nest.
Here, on a Monday, we get a chance to vent our little, or not so little, things that irritate us.

Today, my irritation is....
Me!

Yes, that's right.
I irritate myself.
Silly, I know, but there it is.
How?

I overdo things when swimming, or walking, or cleaning house (flat). Anything else.

Here's the thing.....it's hot, so I'll go swimming. Doc says it will be good for my back and when I'm in the water I do feel pretty good. So I make my way up and down the lane several times, then I'll think....just one more. And that's the one. The overdo.
By the time I get home I'm pretty achy and by the next day I can barely get out of bed.
The thing is, I can't put a number on the lengths I can swim, some days I do four or six and that does me in, last time I did twelve, and suffered for it the next day.

Walking is the same. Some days I'll go around the block twice, some days I can walk to Unley Road and back which is an hour and a half.
I never know which one will lay me flat the next day.
Resting is the same. Too much and I've stiffened up.

So my irritation isn't just mental, me being cross with myself, it is also physical.
Yesterday my knees were stuffed. And that irritates me greatly.

I'm going to have to come up with a plan.
5 minutes of this....10 minutes of that......hire someone else to scrub my floor.....

Do I sound like I'm whinging?
Of course I do. I know it, you know it.

  1. Sounds like you do your floors on your hands and knees. I did always until very recently. Now I use a sponge mop on a stick....what ever they are called. Hang the corners, I just don't feel like getting on the knees to mop, anymore.

  2. I guess we can all be guilty of pushing ourseslves just that little bit too far. You know, I don't think I have anything to gripe about on Monday..except maybe that you get to Monday before I do lol.

  3. Snap. I am weeding the garden preparing for Spring. I know that I tire easily, and should not do too much at a time.
    On Saturday I did (again) and was completely useless all of yesterday. I was so tired and so sore I was nauseous.
    I should know better. I do know better...

  4. The lino in our kitchen is a ridiculous design with grooves in it, which quickly fill up with dirt.

    My method is similar to Manzanita's, but I use a hair broom instead of a mop, to start. What is it but a brush on a long handle anyway? I mop up after I scrub. If a wet floor simply must be walked on soon, an old towel on the damp floor can be "walked" over the surface to dry it.

    I know you know you should take it easy, but the idea is to make yourself stronger and feel better, not damage sore joints or muscles.
    Do a few laps at the pool then before you do more, find a spot where you can walk through the water. 3 lots of 20 minute exercise s instead of marathons. If anyone can organise it, you can.

  5. It's called 'getting old' and we're all doing it at differing rates. I'm feeling a little older tonight.. {Sigh!)

  6. Manzanita; I rarely mop at all, just a daily sweep and wipe up spills as they occur. But we've had termite treatment men coming through the flats and drilling holes in floors to put poison under the boards (one flat was found to have termites so we all need the treatment), then they plugged those with sealer leaving sticky patches. Now the floor needs a good scrubbing.

    Delores; I do push myself too hard, all in the name of getting it done so I can sit down and relax. If only I could get into the habit of sitting down to relax halfway through the job! I'm working on it.

    Elephant's Child; yes, that's exactly it. I remember pruning the rose garden soon after I moved in here. The whole rose garden, about 24 sadly neglected bushes. My hands and wrists were useless for about a week.

    FruitCake; that's what I started off doing, because I'd be gasping for breath. Now that my breathing has improved I don't stop as often, but I think I'll go back to the 20 minutes in, 20 minutes out routine.

    Tempo; I know. I'm still not used to it though.

  7. ah here, I could be your sister on that, my fave words (learnt from me dad) is 'I'm grand', used when I'm in pain and don't want to upset the wife...this is usually caused by doing too much of something that I know damn well that I can't do, but being too stubborn to admit it out loud, which irritates me.

  8. I have pretty much the same gripe. Need to do something;
    Do it;
    Feel Proud, so
    Do It Even More
    And Again so that other people like Love Chunks notices;
    Collapse into a heap;
    No use to anyone;
    Feel annoyed at myself. :P

  9. The Wicked Writer; one of my major faults is doing it all myself instead of asking for help.

    Kath Lockett; "do it, feel proud, do it more", yes, that's me. Except I don't care if others notice or not. It's just me against myself. I'm the one who notices if I DON'T get things done.

  10. I irritate me all the time these days as I am so incapable of doing very much at all. I have to sit to do most things and use a traymobile to move things from room to room and I feel so damned useless a lot of the time. I shouldn't complain as I am actually here to do the complaining but nevertheless I still do irritate me.
    I am fortunate in never worrying about what people think so that is in my favour I guess.

  11. Mimsie; I do a lot of sitting too, with a hot water bottle between my back and the chair cushion. a traymobile sounds like a good idea, I'll have to look into getting one.
