Sunday Selections #121

Welcome back to Sunday Selections!

This once-a- week-meme was originally begun by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, as a way to showcase some of the many photos we all take, but don't get around to showing on our blogs.

The rules are very simple:-
1. post photos of your choice, old or new, under the Sunday Selections title
2. link back to me, River, somewhere in your post
3. leave me a comment so that I know you've joined in and can come over and see what you've posted.
4. hop on over to The Elephant’s Child to see more of her wonderful photos.

Kath and Andrew often join in as well.

I usually go with a theme for my Sunday Selections and this week I'm continuing with some photos of the Rundle Place development.

this is the Grenfell Street entrance to the new Rundle Place....I suppose you could call it a Mall since it has many shops in the one location.

see that crane way up high? They're still constructing.
I'm guessing the upper floors will be office areas for all the stores down below.

I like this mannequin display. For the Mother's Day week they were all dressed in pink.

I love the shiny floors on the ground floor. (I want them in my house...)
See those white rings?

they're reflections of these lights, which I love.

I'm not sure I like the seats though. There are nicer looking ones downstairs.

the lights in the downstairs Food Hall are also circular, echoing the ones on the ground floor. I particularly like that the support posts have light rings too.

this is the Rundle Mall entrance.

here we see the Rundle Mall entrance from the inside, with the staircase and escalators down to the food hall, which has many options for meals and snacks as well as a newsagency, a chemist and several other stores that I haven't taken notice of yet.

also downstairs is a shiny new Coles supermarket.

from the Grenfell Street entrance there are escalators that lead straight down into the supermarket.

A friend of mine transferred in from her previous store, she said it was very exciting working in a new store on its opening day, but after that it was the same old job, just a different location.

a bird's eye view of a couple of the self-serve checkouts. They have these at both ends of the store.

this is the lower ground entrance you come to after walking through the Food Hall.

I'll get back there one day and take more photos of the other shops on the ground and upper floors.
but next week, I'll have something different for you to look at.

No shops, I promise.

  1. It is ages since I have been to Adelaide, and it looks so very different. I love those lights, but those seats don't win my heart either. Mind you, neither do Malls. I like looking at your photos MUCH more than I suspect I would like the Mall itself. Thank you.

  2. I must go back there for a good look around .... it's really very "posh" for Adelaide.

  3. It is still a shame that they didn't leave any of the original building in the new one, even if just as a stone in the floor. But such a fancy new mall! Beautiful and shiny.

  4. Wow, that place sure is ultra modern looking. It reminds me of the kinda places that were only imagined in the '50s.

  5. Wow that is really something and thanks for sharing.
I personally don't like huge shopping centres but mainly because I can only walk short distances and for me there are never enough seats, no matter what they look like. I can imagine people actually lying down on the one you showed a picture of! : )
Look forward to next week's "something different" but more shops are always interesting too.

  6. Elephant's Child; there are many parts of Adelaide that look just as they used to, the Town Hall and the GPO opposite which is no longer a GPO but the building is the same. So far. The Beehive Corner building is the same, depending on how long ago you've been here, I think there was some upgrading done to make it cleaner and brighter.

Dianne; it's "posh" in the way that David Jones was "posh" when all other stores were just shops and DJs had the gloss, the marble floors, the baby grand piano with the player tinkling out classical music.

Cindi; maybe there is a commemorative piece somewhere, maybe a stone or something similar, a photo of the original building framed and hung, I don't know how to find out.

Susan; it's shiny and new without being overdone. Quite classy actually, I like it.

Mimsie; I'll share photos of the other floors and shops as i take them, I'll have to get there at times when there aren't so many people about. I don't like to inadvertently get them in photos that might appear on the internet.
