Wednesday's Words on a Friday

On Wednesdays, Delores, from A Feathered Nest has a meme which she calls Words for Wednesday.

She puts up a selection of six words which we then use in a short story, if we are able.
Sometimes I look at her words and nothing at all comes to mind.

This week's words are:
1. virtuous
2. flannel
3. donuts
4. cartoons
5. inching
6. frayed

Here is my short story:

Aaron was feeling quite virtuous. He'd been out all day with his Uncles, Luke and Rob.
Uncle Luke had promised donuts after dinner if Aaron behaved well today.

They'd gone to the Zoo and seen all the animals, and had eaten lunch at the kiosk by the duck pond, where a few of the cheeky ducks inched closer to the diners, hoping to be thrown a crust of bread or a bit of bun.

By 4pm, Aaron was feeling a bit tired and asked Uncle Luke and Uncle Rob if they could please go home now?

Both Uncles were pleased with Aaron's behaviour, seemed the boy was growing up a bit now he was seven. In years past a tired Aaron would have thrown several tantrums by now. Perhaps the "MEN ONLY" outing Luke's wife had suggested made Aaron feel more grown up?

They'd walked to the bus that would take them home, on the way stopping at the bakery where Uncle Luke had bought a box of donuts for the promised treat.  Aaron had even been allowed to choose which ones!

Now the sun was down, dinner was long over and they were all sitting by the fire in their frayed old flannellette pyjamas, watching cartoons and munching jelly donuts.

  2. Well done. I'm with Merle. It's been a long time since I ate a donut, but one sure is sounding good about now.

  4. Merlesworld; I'm resisting the temptation so far, it helps that the nearest donut shop is in the city.

Susan; I've had too many this last 12 months, so I'm trying to be good and not buy any.

Elephant's Child; a zoo trip is always a good day. Followed by donuts, it's even better.

  5. That was a sweet story. I think I may go to Tim Hortons this afternoon and get an apple cobbler donut. Yes, they are as wonderful as they sound.

  7. Delores; my favourite is the lemon cheesecake donut.

The Wicked Writer; a Men Only outing often helps young boys feel more manly and behave accordingly. I noticed it with my own boys when they went out with their dad.

  8. That is a beautiful story with lots of human warmth in it. We need more of that these days.
