Wednesday's Words on a Friday

On Wednesday’s, Delores, from Under The Porch Light, has a meme which she calls
“Words for Wednesday”.

She puts up a selection of six words which we then use in a short story, if we are able.
Sometimes I look at her words and nothing at all comes to mind.
Sometimes a story suggests itself immediately.

It’s a fun challenge…why not join in?

This week's words are:

1. crystallize
2. morbid
3. fragrance
4. cling
5. instant
6. blueprint

Here is my short story:

Debbie placed a sheet of cling wrap over the strawberry pie before putting it in the fridge. She didn't want that sweet fragrance tempting her every time she reached in for milk or fruit. The girls were coming for morning tea tomorrow and that pie needed to be whole.

"Russell", she called out, "you need to stop staring at that blueprint, you're getting a bit morbid over the whole thing."

"Deb, it's print out not blueprint, that's for buildings, it's the latest printout from the spectrometer, we've identified almost every element in that chemical cocktail that's been administered to those victims. Yet all of them together, or even some of them combined, wouldn't cause the blood in their veins to crystallize in an instant, as it has been doing."

Russell paced the room for a moment before picking up the printed sheet one more time.
"There's still one unknown element, a small spike here at point seven along the graph, we're missing something crucial..." his voice trailed off in despair.

Comments

  1. Hmmmm...could it be found in the strawberry pie????

  2. Sadly I understand the strawberry pie much, much better than Russell's work.

  3. Delores; not the pie, Debbie doesn't understand chemistry. There's an evil mastermind serial killer on the loose.

Elephant's Child; me too, but I often wish I was smart enough to understand Russell's work.

  4. If you thought of that during the night then I can imagine it took a while to gel in your mind in daylight hours. Let's hope Russell can find the missing element that caused all the damage to those poor girls. Don't keep us waiting too long will you? A great story.

  5. Joanne; 11am, bring your appetite.

Mimsie; Russell has contacts in the FBI who are geniuses when it comes to chemical compounds, unfortunately the evil mastermind is also a chemistry genius...

  6. Yum. Strawberry pie...

Sorry, I got a little distracted there. This sounds like an intriguing start to a longer story. Great job!

  7. Susan; I've never actually had a strawberry pie, usually I just eat the strawberries. It could be a longer story, but I'm not sure how to take it there without borrowing too much from books I've read.
