Wednesday's Words on a Friday
On Wednesday’s, Delores,
from Under The Porch Light, has a meme which she calls
“Words for Wednesday”.
She puts up a selection
of six words which we then use in a short story, or a poem.
I’m hopeless at poetry
so I always do a story.
It’s a fun challenge…why
not join in?
This week's words are:

there are also a couple of photo prompts, one of which I will not use today.
Here is my story:
Daphne stood in the cobbled fore-court and gazed up at the billowing clouds sailing past the monolithic turrets of the ancient castle.
When she'd learned that her great-uncle Daniel had left her an old castle in his will, she hadn't imagined anything this grand. She'd thought of a crumbling old ruin, suitable only for demolition.
But this! This was a grand home, in good....well, reasonable.....repair and definitely habitable, in spite of being 200 years old. Small for a castle, but still much bigger than the mansions in town.
Daphne could wait no longer to get a look inside and start counting bedrooms, checking out the kitchen. Hoping there was an inside laundry.
Walking towards the huge front door, Daphne glanced into the pond surrounding a fountain. It still held water, but was dark and murky and a little smelly, it would need a lot of cleaning before it could be stocked with fish again. "Koi," she thought, "I've always wanted a koi pond."
Burrowing deep into her handbag, Daphne retrieved the big, old fashioned scroll-work key and inserted it into the lock. She'd have a good look around, turning on lights and taps to check the wiring and plumbing were okay.
"I should probably flush any toilets I find too," she thought. "They'll need to be in working order before I think about inviting the gang here."
We could have a house warming dance.

A very charming castle; I know all the plumbing is in good working order! Bring on the party.
ReplyDeleteScooby-dooby-doooooo....... let's party. You realize that 'turret' in the photo is our closed up patio umbrella right? It does look like a turret though...it really does.

Ha, ha! Stock up on the Scooby Snacks :-) That was a clever twist to include "that" Daphne.

Marie; the name came to me first, then I decided to make it a Scobby-doo mystery...there's something unusual going on in that castle!

Oh! haha! It took me a minute to click, even after I saw the first Scooby Doo picture! Well done :)

I thought there was going to be one ghost at least. I apologise for not knowing what "Scooby Doo" is so it was lost on me. Shows just how old I am I guess.

Jackie K; that's usually the words that trigger an event that leads to....surprise! a mystery to solve.
ReplyDeleteMimsie; Scooby-Doo is a cartoon dog and the characters are a misfit group who become friends after solving the first mystery together. Daphne is the one in the blue dress, Shaggy is the green t-shirt who owns Scooby-Doo. It's on TV, but you'd have to check your program guide. We have it on Friday afternoons.
