Sunday Selections #181

Welcome back to Sunday Selections!

This once-a- week-meme was originally begun by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, as a way to showcase some of the many photos we all take, but don't get around to showing on our blogs.

The rules are very simple:-
1. post photos of your choice, old or new, under the Sunday Selections title
2. link back to me, River, somewhere in your post
3. leave me a comment so that I know you've joined in and can come over and see what you've posted.
4. hop on over to TheElephant’s Child to see more of her wonderful photos.

Kath and Andrew often join in.
There are a couple of other participants too:
Jackie K at WorkingThrough It
Gillie at The View from Here

I usually go with a theme for my Sunday Selections and this week I'm continuing with some photos of the Zoo.

Otters and Meerkats

funny little animals, Meerkats

they can sit so still for so long

then they will move and you realise it isn't a statue

this one is quite small, I think a baby.

they always post a sentinel, one who gets up high and keeps watch to warn of predators.

look right,

look left,

straight ahead.

right again, and repeat

this Otter was washing something, I'm not sure what

there's all those people with cameras again

two of many

here comes another one
I like Otters, they're so sleek and energetic.

My friends, the two Js were moving on and almost out of sight, so I hurried on after them.

Comments

  1. Like you, I love otters. So sleek, so graceful. They almost 'flow' across the ground.
And who doesn't love a meercat? Though my brother, who volunteers at our local zoo, tells me they are quite feisty and that all of their keepers have had stitches after interacting with them.

  2. Meerkats and otters? Plural?

Do you know how lucky you are?

    I see nothing but sheep.

  3. I thought I'd otter come over and visit your site. Otters are one of my favourite animals. Your photos are brilliant.

As for meerkats, they have these puppet meerkat advert over here in Britain. Bloody annoying ads.

Have a nice remainder of your weekend.

  6. Animals are wonderful creatures. I prefer them to humans...particularly more so these days with all that's going on in this messed up world of ours.

Have a good week, River...give Angel a cuddle for me. :)

  7. Elephant's Child; meerkats don't look like they'd hurt anyone, but looks can be deceiving.

Friko; you need to get yourself to the nearest zoo.

klahanie; we have meerkat ads here too, for insurance. "for sake of Sergei..."

Andrew; I love watching otters more than I do meerkats.

Merle; I find the otters more fun.

Lee; I'm a 50/50 animals-human preference. There are so many people that I like.

  8. Otters. I adore otters. I love to see images of them holding hands as they drift to sleep on the water in the wild. So sweet.

Meerkats are a riot. Very alert and playful, yet taking their role as community guardians seriously.

  9. Vicki; otters holding hands is something I haven't seen except on the internet, it would be lovely to see it in real life. I like the meerkat sentinels, they're so serious and can't be distracted.

  10. Otters are lovely to watch...such fun loving little creatures.

  11. Meerkats are so observant, so watchful, aren't they?
    Otters are incredibly graceful.

  12. Delores; imagine being an otter with not a care in the world.

Susan Kane; I wouldn't mind a bit of that gracefulness myself.

  13. Meerkats and Otters....two of my favourite animals and so different from each other. My daughter loved watching the sea otters in the water in front of their unit when she was in Alaska last year.

  14. Meercats are so photogenic aren't they? And such fun to watch.
Apparently otters often wash their food - and I think zoologists aren't sure why?
