Whimsical Wednesday # 138

Welcome back to Whimsical Wednesday!

The day for your googled giggle that gets you over the hump that is Wednesday and sliding down into the weekend.

Today's giggle hasn't been googled, it came to me via email.

Railway carriage bridge.
I think this is a great way to use an old railway carriage!

  1. Hope the floor boards are safe :) but I agree what an imaginative idea for a bridge!

  2. I don't know how comfortable I would be with that.

  3. I saw that recently. Quite clever really, but what put it in place?

  4. I am with Delores. I am not certain that I would be happy to use that bridge.
Someone I went to college has restored a few old railway carriages, put them on a plot of land in the bush and uses them as a weekender. That I could cope with.

  5. In New Jersey we turn them into diners, but a bridge is pretty cool.

  6. Well that's different, it's is recycling in action.

  7. What an excellent photo prompt. Think of the stories this carriage could tell.

  9. Rose ~ from Oz; I imagine the floorboards would be tested and repaired if necessary before installing the carriage.

Delores; I'd be comfortable using it. It's meant for foot traffic only, cars wouldn't fit and I'm sure it would be checked for safety and stability.

    Joanne; it's wonderful isn't it?

Andrew; I would imagine a large crane or two would swing it into position and a work crew on either end would get busy bolting it into whatever is supporting either end.

Elephant's Child; I'd be happy using it to get across a river or stream. I've seen a few examples of carriages transformed into homes and sheds, I think it's a great idea.

joeh; I've seen then as diners in TV shows, another excellent use for them.

Merle; it's wonderful what some people think of.

Susan Kane; I bet there's more than one story in that. Why don't you see what you can do with it?

Lee; a carriage to carry you across.

  12. That is certainly different and as long as it was maintained I can't see why it wouldn't last for years. Railway carriages have been converted into holiday homes to let down south, Dunsborough I think. I know Karen and her hubby have holidayed in them and say they are very comfortable.

  13. Genius!

Here in Oz, it would be an OH&S nightmare! Imagine the paperwork, and they'd have it taped off quick smart.

    None shall pass...

  14. Mimsie; I think it's a fabulous idea and using old carriages for holidays or beach shacks or even garden sheds is much better than just leaving them to rust and rot.

Vicki; paperwork and red tape is the bane of Australia. Too much governing and too little doing!
Every time someone has a brilliant idea and carries it out, the local councils step in and say you can't do that, you didn't get permission, blah blah blah, remove it immediately.
