Sunday Selections # 198

Welcome back to Sunday Selections!

This once-a- week-meme was originally begun by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, as a way to showcase some of the many photos we all take, but don't get around to showing on our blogs.

The rules are very simple:-
1. post photos of your choice, old or new, under the Sunday Selections title
2. link back to me, River, somewhere in your post
3. leave me a comment so that I know you've joined in and can come over and see what you've posted.
4. hop on over to TheElephant’s Child to see more of her wonderful photos.

Andrew, Jacki K and Kakka often join in.

I usually go with a theme for my Sunday Selections; this week my theme is blue and purple
blue Aussie summer skies and purple Jacaranda.

Ready for the onslaught?

Here we go>>>>

All of these were taken within two blocks of my home, I wanted to put up just a few, but I couldn't choose, they're all so great.
A touch of Aussie summer (spring) for those of you who are now getting or expecting snow.

  1. Jacaranda, huh? I don't believe I've ever seen (or heard of) that before. It is absolutely GORGEOUS! Almost the color of lilacs, which is one of my favorites, but so much larger! I love it. Great pictures.

Ahhhh, spring. No snow here, but it sure is chilly, especially for Georgia. At least the sun is shining, so I'd better drag my tush outside and rake up some of those leaves.

Thanks for the info about parakeets changing gender. Very interesting!

  2. You are surrounded by so many jacarandas and very nice they are. Agapanthus in Perth, jacaranda in Adelaide. Nothing like that here yet. We are so behind.

  3. I love jacarandas and every time I drive to the local supermarket a wide smile unconsciously and untethered spreads across my faces as the road is fringed with lavender.

There is one tree in this property here where I live. They're a wonderful tree. Thanks for sharing yours from down your way, River.

I hope you and Angel have a terrific week...stay cool. :)

  4. They are absolutely glorious trees. We don't get them here (too cold) and I always love to see them. Thank you.

  5. A street lined on both sides with jacaranda trees? How glorious!

  6. Jacarandas are lovely & when they drop their flowers it looks like there is purple snow on the ground!!

  7. Susan; the Jacarandas are lovely, but the underfoot mess is not so nice and slippery if it gets wet. I can't believe you've never seen them, many Aussie bloggers feature them at this time of year.

Andrew; we have agapanthus too, by the hundreds, they grow so well here, but the flowering hasn't started yet. They are in bud now though, so it won't be long.

Lee; they're so lacy too, when looking up through the branches. We're having a cool, rainy weekend here, it's lovely.

Elephant's Child; it's too cold there?? I did not know that. It's probably why your tulips do so well, they prefer the cooler area.

Delores; one of my favourite shades.

Susan Kane; not only my street, the whole city.

fishducky; only for a day or three, then the dropped flowers dry and die and if they get wet they become sludge. Slippery sludge. I'm grateful to the residents who sweep their footpaths before the sludge happens.

  8. Absolutely stunning, love Jacaranda, some of the older suburbs here in Perth had them in abundance. Newer suburbs not so much, but there are some around where we live that people have planted in their gardens. It's another sure sign that summer is coming. Thanks for sharing. Happy Sunday xxx

  9. kakka; and they bring the bees too, so people's veggie patches do well.

  10. They are of course also flowering in Perth, our neighbour has two trees in her front garden so we get the blue blooms blow over the fence. I've been told you should warn children about not wearing shoes as bees sometimes are in the flowers on the ground. A timely warning right now.
Where I used to work (where kakka works now) my office overlooked an older suburb (Kensington/South Perth) and it used to be a sea of blue each year. They are truly beautiful trees and I am so pleased they were introduced to Australia. I believe there are some varieties with pink flowers but I have never seen them.
Thank you for sharing so much beauty with us.

  11. Almost too much to drink in. How lovely to look at.

  12. Were they late this year, mine was here but now a carpet of purple all over the back garden and bees the flowers attract so many.

  13. Mimsie; I don't have small children here so forgot about the bees, I had noticed many bees buzzing about at ground level though, so hopefully others have warned their kids to keep their shoes on. most of Adelaide is a sea of purple right now, but it won't last more than a couple of weeks longer I don't think. Many trees are showing green leaves already.

Snoskred; lots of people do, have you ever been standing near one when a wind springs up and flowers blow all around you? I did that once with the kids in Brisbane, only two kids then and no camera.

Joanne; they are a beautiful sight, as is the purple carpet haze underneath them, until it disintegrates into sludge.

Merle; they were a couple of weeks late, but they're making up for it now.
