Sunday Selections #212

Welcome back to Sunday Selections!

This once-a- week-meme was originally begun by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, as a way to showcase some of the many photos we all take, but don't get around to showing on our blogs.

The rules are very simple:-
1. post photos of your choice, old or new, under the Sunday Selections title
2. link back to me, River, somewhere in your post
3. leave me a comment so that I know you've joined in and can come over and see what you've posted.
4. hop on over to The Elephant’s Child to see more of her wonderful photos.
Possibly EC isn't joining in this week as she has other things going on.
  Andrew often joins in too.

I usually go with a theme for my Sunday Selections but this week's selection is random.
You may have seen some of these before, I chose an old folder at random because again, I haven't been out with my camera lately.

date palm

autumn in Australia

native frangipani. this single blossom was touched by the sun while the rest of the tree was in deep shadow.

repainting the fence, probably the first time I used the zoom on this camera, I was way down the other end of that alley.

I spotted this tiny spider eating a fly one day while I was hanging my washing out, so of course I ran inside for the camera!

Now for Merle, some photos of the scarf I knitted using a yarn in similar shades to what she used to crochet a mat recently.

my collection of needles

the yarn, Merle had shades of grey and black

The finished scarf is 3 inches wide and 10 feet long, including the 5 inch fringe at either end.

(ninja Sarah doll) the pale pink scarf I knitted for my younger grand daughter, this one is only 2 inches wide and 6 feet long including the 4 inch fringes at each end.

  1. The spider and fly photo is pretty good. Roll on autumn.

  2. Great photos, River. I particularly like the fellow painting the fence and the one of your little grand-daughter. That is just such a cute photo and even though only a very small glimpse can be seen of her, she looks like a beautiful child. :)

Have a great week...and cuddles to Angel.

  3. Andrew; I was surprised how well the spider/fly photo turned out. They were so tiny and I only spotted them because the fly struggled a bit.

Lee; Sarah is a doll I keep here for kids to play with, my grand daughter, N, wrapped her in the scarf ninja style. N was 6 when she did that, 10 now.

  4. What great slices of your days. Go Spider! Go!!

  5. If it's as warm in your corner of the country as it is here... I'm not venturing out past 10am.
Weather report here says a cool change tomorrow, thankfully.
I agree with Andrew - roll on autumn.

I love painting walls etc. And have done my share of painting fences with a brush - ugh, long job. I admire this man for taking the time to paint with a brush.
These days, I see companies using sprays - much quicker, but, if not done properly, can be very patchy. Does depend on the "operator".

Love the scarf made of gorgeous mottled plum/cream/dusky blue.

Nice macro shot of spidie's dinner.

  6. What a lovely assortment you gave us today.
Wonder if anyone got dates from that palm and it's great to see occasional autumn colours in our country.
That is a cute spider and I guess we have to be happy flies get caught and eaten.
Those scarves are lovely. I had a huge collection of knitting needles too but when my hands became too bad for me to knit any longer I sold the needles on eBay plus some wool not suitable for crochet. I still crochet, albeit slowly, making rugs I give to Vinnys each year.
I hope you are managing to keep cool. We have been lucky to have a weekend only in the high 20s but I think we have a 38C due on Tuesday. This summer is becoming a bit of a bore and here in the west it usually continues right through to March and sometimes even April.

  7. Susan Kane; For a long while the eating spider was the most interesting thing I'd seen, then a couple of years later I saw a praying mantis leaving his old skin behind as he crawled out of it.

Vicki; we're due for a cool change tomorrow too, thank goodness. I planned on staying home all day, then ran out of milk so had to walk to the shops. Good thing they're close by.
I don't enjoy painting walls as much as I do furniture, the walls are my daughter's and ex-husbands thing, they love decorating. My T painted her room once, then put a wall sized flamingo-on-a-rock mural on the wall facing her bed.

Mimsie; a lot of my older folders have a good assortment, I used to go out and snap anything at all while getting to know the camera. This selection is from 2008 or 2009, maybe even earlier. not the scarf, that was just last year.
I never learned how to crochet, Mum tried to teach me, but I wasn't interested. She would have had me making doilies and tablecloths by the dozens, and I preferred to read a book.
I have the aircon going and all doors and windows are closed so I'm quite comfortable. Supposed to be cooler tomorrow, but that won't last, not if you're getting 38C on Tuesday, we'll get that by Friday.

  8. I really like the photo of the guy painting the fence, and the frangipani. Our fence needs painting quite badly, but it needs repairing before that. No wonder most people end up tearing their fences down.

  9. Jackie K; I wish I had a fence to maintain, then I'd have more privacy and maybe I could let the cat outside.
