Sunday Selections # 268

Welcome back to Sunday Selections!

This once-a- week-meme was originally begun by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, as a way to showcase some of the many photos we all take, but don't get around to showing on our blogs.

The rules are very simple:-
1. post photos of your choice, old or new, under the Sunday Selections title
2. link back to me, River, somewhere in your post
3. leave me a comment so that I know you've joined in and can come over and see what you've posted.
4. hop on over to Elephant’s Child to see more of her wonderful photos.
  Andrew often joins in too.

I usually go with a theme for my Sunday Selections but this week I just have a small random selection of photos I found from 2013. You may have seen a couple of them already.

my "lucky" troll. he used to wear a green shirt, I have no idea what happened to it, perhaps he just prefers the feel of the air on his skin.

I'd been boiling eggs for sandwiches and when I began peeling them this one came apart to reveal a perfectly intact yolk.

this scrawny, crippled pigeon, the only brown one in a flock of well-fed, plump and glossy grey ones, managed to get himself up onto the seat, where the woman feeding the flock hand fed him for a while. Can you see how his beak is longer and curved? and he only had one leg, unless he was doing that trick birds often do, tucking one leg up and out of sight to get sympathy.

this is one of my favourite buskers, playing didgeridoo, tom-toms and sometimes beating a stick against the brown one lying by his feet there.

here you can see the bells and balls tied to his ankle to add to his music. He is sometimes accompanied by a girl playing violin, but I prefer to hear just him.

here's that pigeon again, you can see better how his beak is deformed and how skinny he is. The rest of the flock were bullying him away from the crumbs.

  1. Lovely to see you here this morning - even if it was a cat fight which got you up.
That busker looks very well organised. Violin and didgeridoo is not a combination I had ever thought of. And not one I am anxious to hear.
I suspect that pidgeon led a short life.

  2. Some birds have very little empathy.

  3. The troll has rainbow hair. Poor pigeon won't live very long.

  4. The poor little pigeon. I see he does have both legs, the poor little guy. Very sad.

I'd enjoy hearing the busker...he's a multi-tasking fellow. I'm sure I'd be standing by for quite a long time listening to him.

I hope you're enjoying your break, River. (I enjoyed your previous post, by the way). Have a good week ahead...and cuddles to Angel...take care. :)

  5. I'm not sure I would have hand fed the pigeon but he certainly looked like he needed a good feed. Poor thing.

  6. Elephant's Child; I don't like the combination, I prefer just the didgeridoo and tom toms.

joeh; it's the way of the animal kingdom, the weak get pushed out of the herd.

Andrew; The rainbow hair went very well with his Irish green shirt, but he looks just as good naked. I haven't seen pigeons in the Mall for a while, they've moved to Victoria Square, and the flock is huge now, so I probably couldn't spot the brown one even if he has survived.

Lee; he did have both legs, but didn't seem to be putting weight on the left leg.
I don't often have time to stop and listen anymore, usually I'm hurrying to catch a bus, but sometimes when I'm shopping in the city I'll make time. He isn't always there, but I drop extra coins in his case when he is.
I'm feeling less edgy, but think I'll still limit my computer time and do other things.
Angel isn't talking to me today, I sneaked up on him while he was eating a treat and put the flea treatment on the back of his neck. He hates that, but he's picked up fleas from Sweetie, so he gets the treatment.

Tracy; I would have fed the pigeon if I'd had more than a camera in my hands. I'm not sure he's survived, this was three years ago.

  7. Poor bird, he's probably gone to bird heaven by now.
Troll doll looks good with the skirt on.
    Egg, interesting.
Busker would be good to listen too..

  8. Margaret-whiteangel; a skirt for the troll doll? Not worth the effort, he's so tiny; 7 cms plus 5cms of hair height.

Author R Mac Wheeler; the pigeon? Yes, but he's probably in bird heaven by now.

  9. Oh yes, how does Angel react to hearing cat fighting?

  10. A lovely assortment but my heart went out to that poor little pigeon. Animals are so cruel to each other especially to those weaker than themselves.

  11. Andrew; he runs for the door and jumps up to the handle trying to get in if he's outside. If he's inside, he ignores it.

Mimsie; it's the way of the animal world, and we can feel sorry for them, but that won't change things.
