Sunday Selections # 313

Welcome back to Sunday Selections.

Begun way back in the mist of time by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock and now continued by me, with a drastic relaxation of rules.

Originally meant for showcasing old photos lost on your files, never seeing the light of day, the meme has morphed into photos of your choice, new or old, good or not-so-good, anything you please, but nothing rude please.

If you are participating, please leave me a comment so I can buzz along and have a look.

Elephant's Child always participates, and her pictures are always worth seeing, but EC is currently taking a break, so it's just me and anyone else who chooses to join in.

Let's begin with a very laid-back cat:

can't get more relaxed than this,

Angel is one cool cat 😎

this is the busiest corner of my kitchen, it has the largest available counter space. Being quite deep, it takes a bit of stretch to reach the power point way over on the wall behind the microwave. It's a double outlet, with one being always in use, the kettle is permanently plugged in. The other one does double and triple duty with me having to reach all the way over to unplug the microwave to plug in the toaster, or to plug in something else, like my hand mixer or blender.
AND, it's the only available power outlet, since the other one is on the opposite wall behind the fridge.

I noticed some interesting reflections on the jars I have above the sink area

this tall skinny glass used to have a glass fish in it,

but I moved him into this wider jar.

here he is, just hangin'

the first jar holds a honeysuckle cutting which I gathered last year and it hasn't died yet, although I noticed this morning the lower leaves are yellowing. Time to plant it out and see what happens. Honeysuckle is my favourite scented climber.

Here are all three jars together, with the black pebbles I added for a dramatic effect. Too many in one, not enough in another, I'll get that sorted one day.

this is my "juju" bag, given to me long ago by a friend, it's supposed to ward off evil and not let any bad into the house. I don't remember what herbs are in there, but it seems to be very effective.

this is the picture I see on my screen when I first open my computer. Great picture, right? There used to be a different one, with a starry night sky that I liked a lot too, and took a photo of, but I can't find that image.

Let's finish with three sunsets, the first two sent from my brother's phone, the final fiery fantabulousness sent from 'no-one's' phone:

taken from his balcony

also from his balcony, a little earlier than the other one I think

this one taken from 'no-one's' front porch.

I'd be very pleased if some of you readers decide to join me in Sunday Selections, just leave me a comment so I know to pop over and see your photos.

  1. Angel sure is an ... Looks so soft and cuddly!
When my guys remodeled the kitchen, they added an extra plug for the same reason.
Honeysuckle is real tough, we fight to get rid of ours. (haven't won that fight)
My monitor is almost half full of stuff, I forgot how to uninstall and left the short-cuts to remind me what to have son help me with. :/
    Pretty sunset shots!

    1. S.J.Qualls; if I ever have to move, for whatever reason, I'll be taking a book of notes along each time I inspect a potential new home, kitchen requirements fills the whole first page!
I had a giant honeysuckle in a giant pot at my previous home, the flowers were about 4 inches long, the scent was amazing. I gave it away when I moved here, and I miss it, butI'm glad it's gone. Every pot plant I have now, and the garden too, is heavily infested with ants nests.

  2. Great pics!

I have that same tea kettle. Well, not the SAME one, but one just like it. (But I still kinda miss my top-of-the-stove whistler.)

Angel looks a lot like our Dot, who is currently sprawled across my lap. Dash is sitting between me and the monitor. Annoying? A little. But I wouldn't want it any other way.

Your arrangement of glass containers is very artistic, and the black stones add a dramatic touch. Very nice!

But my favorite shots are of the sky. WOW! Just gorgeous!

    1. Susan; Angel used to lie between me and my keyboard, but I put a stop to that when he got so big. Typing at arm's length is not so easy.
I rarely get to see sunsets or sunrises for that matter, there's just too many buildings in the way here, so I'm happy to have photos sent by family members.

  5. Cats certainly are experts at relaxing. My two greeted me upon my waking; had a brief bite of their breakfast and have promptly gone back to sleep!!

River...with you mentioning your power point problem/awkwardness... maybe, for convenience, sake you could get yourself one of those mult-socket power boards...one with just four outlets would suffice for your purposes, I'm sure. You could set up a couple of brackets or hooks/something (somehow) upon which to rest the or secure it...and then you could have all your appliances there on that section of your bench plugged into to it, permanently...and the bar plugged permanently into the wall outlet. Just a thought -

Stunning photos of a stunning sunset.

I hope the week ahead treats you kindly...cuddles to Angel. :)

    1. Lee; within a week of moving here I was trying out extension powerboards, but there's really no room for one where it, or the cords plugged into it, aren't in the way. I have surge protector boards in the lounge room. I will take another look at the kitchen though, maybe there's a spot I haven't seen yet.

    2. What about having it hung on some kind of bracket attached to the under-base/bottom of cupboards....somewhere up there....and perhaps taping (something similar) the cord to the underneath part of the cupboards.....I'm not sure if I'm making any sense. I'm probably not explaining it clearly, what I see in my own mind's eye. :)

    3. I can see it in my mind too, but the underside of the cabinets gets damp from steam because the range hood is set too low, I keep bumping my head on it. I'll have to shift things around a bit and see what I can come up with. In the end, I'll probably just keep putting up with what I've got (*~*)

  6. Brilliant sunset photos. It doesn't look like your fish swims very much. You can at least get some nice flat double adaptors now. They can stick out left or right or vertically. It looks like a warm day with Angel a bit spread out.

    1. Andrew; the fish is glass, you might remember they were a big thing in the early 90s, everyone had glass bowls of suspended fish as a decorator item. I've thought about a double adaptor, I've got a few in a drawer somewhere, but something I forgot to tell Lee above you here, is I don't have the toaster on the bench all the time. It gets in the way, that's my only available veg prep space, unless I put a giant chopping board across the hotplates, so the toaster lives in a cupboard. Even with a double adaptor, I'd still have to reach over into the corner, which is sometimes hard, when my shoulders are stiff and aching for instance.
It was a very warm day when Angel was on the couch in just the right spot to get the aircon blowing on him.

  8. magic sunset there like a winter one. Angel so relaxed gorgeous cat. like your plants in the jars.

  9. Margaret-whiteangel; most sunsets are magic when there are clouds involved. Only one plant is real, the honeysuckle, the others are plastic aquarium plants.
