Warning! Warning! email scam going around

there's a new email scam going around, so beware.
Here's how it goes: you get an email saying someone has shared a google document with you and you must open the link to view it.

DO NOT OPEN THE LINK

I repeat: DO NOT OPEN THE LINK!

this is a scam.  Mark the email as "spam", then go to your spam folder and delete it immediately.

  2. I have a rule to not open any link...even from friends, unless I am positive it is real.

    1. joeh; that's a good rule, but here I should warn you, there are emails going around supposedly from me, but they're used by a phishing site who got my email address from one of those blogs where you have to sign in with your email to be able to comment. The latest of these phishing emails offers a link to "Hot Russian Women".

  3. Sigh. They never stop do they. Last week I got an email saying that I had been fined $103.95 for negligent driving. Last week in West Australia (their term). They offered me a link to examine the photographic evidence and ways to pay. Pass. And delete.

    1. Elephant's Child; very smart to pass and delete. $103.95 seems like an odd amount, I'm sure fines are more even, like $200 or $400, no odd cents involved.
I hope too many people don't get sucked in and pay, because those things usually require credit card details and once the scammers have that information, the victims are doomed. Well, their bank accounts are.

    2. Negligent driving is, in my understanding, always a court thing rather than just a fine. And for that particular crime, their quoted amount was cheap.
