Sunday Selections # 330

Welcome back to Sunday Selections.

Begun way back in the mist of time by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock and now continued by me, with a drastic relaxation of rules.

Originally meant for showcasing old photos lost on your files, never seeing the light of day, the meme has morphed into photos of your choice, new or old, good or not-so-good, anything you please, but nothing rude please.

If you are participating, please leave me a comment so I can buzz along and have a look.
Elephant's Child always participates, and her pictures are always worth seeing.

today is a somewhat random selection:

sunset through the trees a few days ago

my pigface cutting is well enough established to flower, after the frosty weeks, I'll plant it out in a wider pot.

my jades will soon be a mass of starry pink flowers

my plum trees, but where are all the leaves?

there they are, inches thick on the ground

my little fat hens are quite comfortable, half buried in their leafy nest

my mint has made good growth since I moved it, I'll soon be picking it for cups of tea again

this is my new clothes dryer, I got so sick of hearing the old one screech and whine its way through the cycle.

rainbows on my sink

and a lovely hot bubble bath for my hands

what is this now? Little kitty cat paws

poking out from behind the TV.  I've discovered Angel's new hiding place.

good progress being made on the new house down the block a bit, the grey bricks are the garage side

while these paler bricks are the house side and will probably be rendered over.

the two smaller homes at the back of the block have been started too.

and right next door to them is a tree full of sunshine, aka oranges. The one next door to this, which I thought was grapefruit, is also oranges.

  1. Nothing's as refreshing as a fresh orange right off the tree!!

    1. fishducky; I'll never know that joy, I'm allergic to oranges, they give me hives. I have eaten ripe, sun warmed peaches straight from the tree though, best peaches I ever ate.

  2. I smiled through this post. Love the little fat hens and angel paws. And the rainbow. And the oranges...
Growing up my father always burnt autumn leaves.

    1. Elephant's Child; I knew a lot of people who burnt autumn leaves. Seemed such a waste to me, they make fantastic mulch and then become compost, just what the trees need.

  3. Cats are so funny with their crazy antics and habits. My two, now that the weather has cooled down a bit, are acting like a pair of kittens. Keeping themselves, and me, entertained while they tear through the place playing chasy and hide and seek! They have me in fits of laughter.

Of course, "our" bed is a very popular spot, and Shama, in particular, loves snuggling underneath the covers, up close and personal. And Remy uses me as his pillow. I am here for their comfort and pleasure!

I love this time of the year with loads of citrus fruits around. Every morning I'm juicing a large glassful of fresh juice...love it!!

Keep warm down your way, River...I hope the week ahead is a good one for you...and cuddles to Angel (he's probably behind the TV catching up on his own favourite shows!) :)

    1. Lee; Angel had a crazy kitten day himself recently, I dangled a long ribbon and he chased it all over the place like he used to. I worry about him getting behind the TV in case he knocks it over. Modern TVs don't have the stable four legged base of older ones. My daughter's cat gets up behind her TV too, but Missy is tiny, while Angel is three times her size.

    2. Perhaps attached a solid piece of ribbon or thin rope of sorts around the stem of the base, if that is possible, and tie it securely to a hook on the wall behind the TV. Or some who glue the base to what it sits on - something a bit stronger than Blu-tack, perhaps.

Once cats get something stuck in their mind, they'll not give up just because we went them, too.

I also read some where that by spraying orange skin residue/oil around the area you don't want your cat to go is a good deterrent. Just get fresh orange, peel of skin, fold skin and press, it will spray oil.

With all those oranges on that tree..... :)

    3. Lee; I can't do those things, the entertainment unit doesn't belong to me, it's on loan from my older daughter. Her new TV didn't fit in it, it's gigantic and it's on her wall.

  4. The orange tree looks terrific and I like the sunset through the trees. Very cute paw play by Angel.

    1. Andrew; I like seeing orange trees with their bright globes of fruit against the deep green leaves. I can't eat them though, I'm allergic. I used to wonder where Angel disappeared to, then one day I noticed the paws. Usually he keeps them tucked under.

  5. I really like the sunset through the trees, and isn't amazing where you will find a cat napping.

    1. Jimmy; I don't often catch the sunset, always looking out too early or too late and there's always buildings or trees in the way. I most often find Angel napping on the bed, but in between the quilts.

  6. A lovely selection of photos for Sunday.
Orange tree does look good in the photo and I bet you are thrilled to bit with your new dryer.

    1. Margaret-whiteangel; thank you. The dryer is lovely, a whisper quiet motor, but a whooshing of hot air from that front vent, which is easy enough to ignore if I close the door over part way.

  7. That first pic is my fave! You should enter it in a contest somewhere. It's peaceful but mysterious both.

How big is that dryer? Doesn't look very big? Ours can fit a king size comforter "ok" but not great. Really better to go to the laundromat for something that big for best drying.

    1. Happy Elf Christine; the dryer is big enough, I don't use it much anyway. I hang stuff out in the sun all summer and in winter hang things long enough so they're almost dry, then finish them off in the dryer. It will hold my quilts, but they're single and double sized; my bed is a single. I have a queen size quilt, but it just barely fits in the washer, so I packed it away last time I cleaned it and that was before I got this dryer. Sadly, there's no laundromat near me.

  8. Such a great selection of different pictures.
Your mint has some good growth and looks very healthy.

    All the best Jan
