Sunday Selections # 336

Welcome back to Sunday Selections.

Begun way back in the mist of time by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock and now continued by me, with a drastic relaxation of rules.

Originally meant for showcasing old photos lost on your files, never seeing the light of day, the meme has morphed into photos of your choice, new or old, good or not-so-good, anything you please, but nothing rude please.

If you are participating, please leave me a comment so I can buzz along and have a look.
Elephant's Child always participates, and her pictures are always worth seeing.

Here we go:

I've been marking the calendar as each day passes without Angel, yesterday was day 26, and look what else, "boob squish". That's right, yesterday was mammogram day. Ouch.

I've made a new curtain for my bedroom,

black lace,

over a sparkly aqua background,

with a "frill" at the bottom.  This is actually stretchy dance costume fabric, tricky to sew, and the "frill" is a selvedge along one side and should be sewn in, but I liked it, so hung the fabric sideways.

I also found a "Diamond" throw, (that's what the label said), at Cheap as Chips,

in a colour that matches my furniture, tones well enough with the aqua on the new curtain, and is velvety soft just like Angel's ears.

Let's walk around outside a bit...

pots of pansies are everywhere,

in a rainbow of colours,

and a variety of sizes.

beautiful, yes?

a little backyard that has previously been almost empty, now has lots to look at.

one perfect iris remaining in a bed where the others are all rain damaged.

the lovely purple pea flowers of the Polygala shrub. One of my favourites and I would plant one if I had space and better soil.

a sweet little ceramic kitty,

a whiter than white gnome and a cheeky green frog, I must ask R where he got these,

and lastly, a pale gold version of the gnome.

  1. Hope you will see Angel soon! I've heard lots of stories of wayward cats who come back after a little time away.

  2. You did a nice job on your bedroom curtain, it looks like a professional job.

The flowers are gorgeous I really like the iris.

    1. Jimmy; thank you, apart from the fabric being stretchy, it was easy enough and quicker than sewing clothes, which I used to do when the kids were babies.

  3. I so hope that you get to stroke Angel's soft ears again. Soon.
Love your curtain and the garden shots. I hope the boob squish went well. Not fun at all.

    1. Elephant's Child; I find myself stroking the new throw instead. If I get to the point where I roll it up cat-shaped I hope someone calls the men in white coats to save me.
I'm happy with the curtain too, it's unconventional, like me. The boob squish was as uncomfortable as always. I asked the assistant what age women usually stop having them, she said they recommend stopping about age 74.

    Pretty pansies!
I am still hoping for Angel's return.

    1. Sharon Qualls; thank you, I'm happy with the curtains. The pansies are so cheery to look at, they're not in my garden, but that's okay. I keep hoping Angel will be waiting at the front door every time I go out somewhere.

  5. You did a great job with the curtains. We had a polygala once and it grew very easily in sandy soil and without much care. Rain damage? None of that here. No rain at all. Still hoping.

    1. Andrew; thank you. My daughter's yard had a Polygala, it was growing sideways and over and around the water meter so I cut it down, you might remember I posted about it several months back. We've mostly been having overnight rains, with an occasional day shower. My soil here is hard clay under a few layers of rotted mulch and the area is filled with tree roots from my plum trees.

  6. Angel ran flat out from the damn dog. When he straightened up again, nothing was familiar. For a day or two he hunkered down under some bushes. Food was hard to come by. Water, ditto. He wandered by night into a few friendly seeming back yards. Eventually, a door opened. Some man, taking out the garbage, called over his shoulder, "There's a beautiful, bedraggled cat out here." It took them a week to entice Angel in, though he did demolish the food and water left, before he retreated to a bush again. Now a vet has checked him, the mats have been combed out and he has a new home. Keep talking to him in your head. He probably hears, and wishes he knew the way back. He won't go looking, that whole journey was terrorizing. But, he likes to remember, and you never know. Your paths may cross, and he'll remember.

    1. I've had a few cats just disappear in my life and a few that just arrived on my doorstep, I give them a home and like to think others do too.

    2. Joanne; I do hope that someone nice is caring for him and if they do take him to a vet, his microchip will let them know who he belongs too. He also has my phone number on his name tag. I talk to him in my head all the time. Someone has been tearing down the missing cat posters I put up.

Merle; I haven't had any disappear until now and I don't give food or home to strays, I can't afford that. Around here there are no strays anyway, every cat belongs to someone and I know most of them.

  7. We are short on rain this winter.
I do like your bedhead and curtains not sure about the diamond spread I was expecting real diamonds.

    1. Merle; Australian rain usually holds off until late in the winter, so you might get some soon. I remember September is usually quite wet. The bedhead is a big piece of cardboard from a refrigerator box which I covered with pictures cut from magazines. Real diamonds on a spread wouldn't be comfortable, although they might look pretty and sparkly.

    1. Ann ODyne; 30 days? or 300, I still keep looking and hoping. There hasn't been any injured or dead cats around here so I'm thinking someone has Angel and hasn't checked his collar for my phone number, or just wants to keep him anyway. I worry that he isn't getting the right food.

    1. Author R. Mac Wheeler; I got an extra squish on both sides, six squishes altogether. Not fun.

  10. Oh! Dear! 26 days! My heart contracted when I read that. Constantly, I am hope to hear the good news that Angel has arrived back home. I'm not giving up on him, and I know you're not giving up, either, River. Hold tight to your hopes.

Have a good week... take care. :)

  11. My pansies have totally withered. It's been about 100 degrees of late and even with watering, they just go downhill fast. Our winters are too cold for them to last through though.
