Wednesday's Words on a Friday

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles.

The aim of the words is to encourage us to write, a story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.
If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along and read it.

This month the words are supplied by Granny Annie and can be found here.

This week's words are:

1. edacious
2. crucible
3. gauche
4. melee
5. inhere
6. fester

and/or:

1. bonafides
2. schadenfreude
3. chthonic
4. regimen
5. manumit
6. splenetic

this one was fun and just about wrote itself. I did have to look up chthonic. Okay, and a couple of the other words too (*~*)

Here is my story:

Lucifer, in human form today, checked the file again, looking carefully to be sure the woman entering the bakery matched the photo pinned to the paper. Yes! This was a bonafide capture. Unlike that last terrible mistake, where thankfully, that goody-two shoes, God, stepped in and rescued that poor soul. Just in time too. If the boss had found out, Lucifer would be in deep trouble.

But the woman in front of him was definitely Essie Farnsworth. Gauche, edacious, and totally incapable of following any regimen whatsoever. Charged with causing more than several melees in the past month, as with splenetic glee she pushed aside anyone in her path in order to be first at the counter when the doughnuts and cream cakes were brought out and displayed for sale.

Mothers with toddlers, school children, shaky old women with their walking aids, none made any difference to Essie. She would shove and push them all against each other and march to the counter while they disentangled themselves. There, Essie would purchase a dozen doughnuts, a dozen cream filled eclairs and two family sized cream filled sponge cakes. These would be her lunch, while the doughnuts and eclairs would be dessert tonight.

Essie had no way of knowing she would never again enjoy a single bite. As she exited the bakery, clutching her bags of goodies, Lucifer, with his chthonic breath, stepped in front of her. With obvious schadenfreude, he happily announced: "Essie Farnsworth, you are hereby charged with causing a riot far too any times this month, your splenetic edaciousness has caused harm to others who do not deserve it and from this moment on, you inhere to me. There will be no manumitting, you are to be chained forever to the crucible on level three in hell, there to fester to the end of days."

With a flash of lightning, Essie was struck dead and her soul dragged down to level three even before the next customer exited the bakery. A pack of homeless hungry dogs happily ate the goodies she left behind.
