OMG Facts for today

1. in the 1920s popcorn was banned from movie theaters because it was too noisy

2. According to comedian and actor Louis C.K. your forties are the age when doctors stop trying to fix you. "When you describe what's ailing you," he said, "they just nod their heads and say, "Yeah, that starts to happen."

3. The total weight of bacteria living in the human body is 4.4 pounds

think about that last one for a minute. How do they know? did they capture every single one of them and stuff them in a pre-weighed jar then onto a scale?

  1. Sometimes all that is to be said as people complain about their medical issues, especially aches and pains, is to point out their age to them.

    1. Andrew; which brings to mind the old joke about a man complaining about pain in his knee and the doctor says "well, it is 70 years old" and the patient says "so is the other knee and there's nothing wrong with that one"

  2. Hmmm on #3 I think they just make shit up sometimes. THey must have made a way for quieter popcorn fortunately for theaters as that's probably half their profits.

    1. only slightly confused; of course, plus the weight of your earrings, nail polish, hair product, any food you ate in the last hour because it doesn't count if it hasn't had time to glue itself to your hips yet...

  7. Interesting. Didn't realise popcorn made that much noise.
40 years old and Dr.'s stop treating you - no not these days, they do fix things and continue to do so and when you get old as in about 80, they treat things the best they can, well that's what I believe.
Have no idea about the bacteria - who knows!

    1. Margaret-whiteangel; this stuff is all tongue-in-cheek, not meant to be taken seriously. But perhaps in the 1920s, the movies were silent and all you could hear was popcorn being eaten.

  8. If the movies were silent, then what did it matter if all you could hear was popcorn? They had those little cards pop up to read the dialogue. I think somebody with power and money was an antipopcornite!

    1. Val; Vest has the answer, the problem was mice who came to feed on the dropped popcorn. The noise was an excuse so the people wouldn't stay home because of the mice.

  9. In the London cinemas popcorn was banned simply because it attracted Mice when spilled. however, it came to ahead after Pussy cats were introduced to combat the mouse problem. The pussycats roaming beneath one's feet became confusing to many a lover boy wondering what he was stroking. 'Hmm'.
