Sunday Selections #359

Welcome back to Sunday Selections.

Begun way back in the mist of time by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock and now continued by me, with a drastic relaxation of rules.

Originally meant for showcasing old photos lost on your files, never seeing the light of day, the meme has morphed into photos of your choice, new or old, good or not-so-good, anything you please, but nothing rude please.

If you are participating, please leave me a comment so I can buzz along and have a look.
Elephant's Child is taking a break this month and we will miss her wonderful photos.

I love delivery day, it's almost like Christmas, the one difference being that I already know what is inside these boxes. The black ones hold two giant boxes of kitty litter, the big brown boxes hold two large boxes of laundry powder and two large bottles of fabric softener. The small brown box holds a stack of stationery items that should last me a couple of years at least.

I decided to get the housework done before opening them.

the filters from the range hood were desperately in need of scrubbing, so here they are freshly cleaned

the grille covering the exhaust fan was also looking decidedly grungy, so that came off for a good scrub

and of course the grunge under that grille needed to be removed too, not the easiest job, because the range hood is set too low and leaning up under it is awkward.

Visited my daughter the next day and she had a little surprise for me,

Introducing: Gracula

isn't he cute?

and useful

any other vampire would run a mile at the sight of garlic. But not Gracula-one twist of his head and he will crrush your garlic to smitherines...Mwahahahaha
(I've never seen smithereens spelled that way)

the oh so easy directions

here he is ummm...'beheaded'

and the twisty bits

that grind against these twisty bits once your garlic clove is in place

I haven't tried it yet but I think it will be a fun way to crush garlic.

  1. OMG - I NEED a gracula! Desperately. Need one! I use great gooey gobs of garlic and have been using a mini chopper to process several heads of garlic at a time and then freezing it. But THIS. I need THIS!

  5. I am reminded of placing orders with Amazon and being reminded it has saved me "x" number of trips to the store so far this year. Cheeze!
When I moved in here I asked how to clean the furnace filters. Some guy came and made such a production of 1) getting them out, and 2) how dirty they were. He brushed off my saying they obviously had not been cleaned before I moved in. Before this heating season Laura and I geared up to get the filters out and cleaned again. Standing in front of the furnace myself, it was obvious another, lower door was removable, leaving the filters completely accessible. Furthermore, they were not dirty, one year later. A light dusting and back they went. Go figure.

    1. Joanne; why is it men make such a big production of a simple job? They do it all the long way, trying to make us think it's a hard job only men can do. I'm glad you found the more accessible door and discovered you were right about those filters.

  6. That Gracula is cute. I wonder how well it does the job. If it works well and actually cleans up easily, I think I would like one.

    1. Sharon Qualls; I think the clean up would be simple, a quick rinse under the tap as soon as the crushed garlic is removed. I'll be using it later today to make garlic butter to make garlic bread to go with my dinner.

  7. Somehow I think there are going to be a lot of meals including garlic being made with Gracula! What a great garlic press/crusher/annihilator!! :)

I've never seen "smithereens" written that way before, either.

I need to get stuck into some housework, too. I've been a bit slack of late! You've put me to shame!!

Have a great week with Gracula, River. Cuddles to Lady Lola. :)

    1. Lee; already a lot of my meals contain garlic, I love the taste and the smell of it.
I did the housework on the cooler days, there's no way I'd be that energetic in the heat.

    2. Me, too,. re garlic...have always loved it...and me, too, re the housework. I don't even consider doing any in the heat. I've only me and my two furry rascals to answer two...and we three don't question! :)

  9. Maybe if I bought a Gracula we would change from minced garlic in a jar to fresh garlic. I'm with you and Lee about the spelling of smithereens.

    1. Andrew; I prefer fresh garlic, but the minced in a jar is handy at times.
