Sunday Selections # 376

Welcome back to Sunday Selections.

Begun way back in the mist of time by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock and now continued by me, with a drastic relaxation of rules.

Originally meant for showcasing old photos lost on your files, never seeing the light of day, the meme has morphed into photos of your choice, new or old, good or not-so-good, anything you please, but nothing rude please.

If you are participating, please leave me a comment so I can buzz along and have a look.
Elephant's Child always participates, and her pictures are always worth seeing.

continuing on with my furniture painting:

(some of you may have seen some of these before)

the first five are from my previous home......which had much bigger rooms

A secondhand chest of drawers. I'd only just moved in and things were not fully unpacked

a new mirror, the box along the base has a lift up lid and that's where I stashed all my hairclips,  scrunchies and combs

and one of a pair of new bedside chests. The pink and green chest on the left is the second thing I ever painted. Can you see the gold trim?

these are my curtains, heavy cotton, thermal blockout lined, bought for huge, 16 feet wide, floor to ceiling windows when I lived near the beach. when I moved to my previous home I had enough to put on all the smaller windows. I love the colours and still have the curtains although they are much faded from many washings and one section is now my tablecloth.

here is how I painted my furniture, in colours to tone in with those curtains. The miniature chest is the first piece I ever painted, followed by the bigger, small chest in a previous photo. The blue trim you see on the tallboy is actually a green/blue, but always shows blue in photos. If you look closely, you'll see gold trim on these pieces also.

moving into my current home:

this is my bedroom, with everything crammed into one end. I'm standing in the doorway to the bathroom, to my left is the door to the back porch, to my right is the door to the lounge room; three walls, three doorways, which makes just over a metre width unsuitable for furniture placement.

Here is that small pink and green chest, right next to the doorway leading to the back porch.  You'll notice I no longer have the red/blue/green/yellow curtains here, they've been replaced by this aqua-backed black lace.

I found this cute little Llama in the Reject Shop for only $7, and just had to buy him

because his colours match my room so well

and he's a moneybox. Empty of course

this amber glass lightshade is what throws the golden tint over my room

here we see Yorick with his Easter Bunny ears from last month, he is currently wearing a Fedora, Raymond Reddington style

this final picture shows my favourite salad ingredients; cos lettuce, cucumber, red capsicum, red onion, tomatoes and a fresh peach. Italian dressing of course. I don't like French dressing at all.

  1. I love seeing what other people do with their surroundings. I painted everything I could touch back in my thirties, and then gave it u as too much work. You, on the other hand, have a good color eye and a steady hand. It all looks wonderful.

    1. Joanne; thank you, most of my friends here are a bit taken aback by my colour choices, they seem to be fans of neutrals and pastels, but I like my colours strong.

  2. I've never thought of putting a peach in a salad, though I have used grapes, apples & oranges!!

    1. fishducky; I've used grapes and watermelon, the peach is a new favourite when that was the only fruit left in the fridge, but I like it so much I'll use them until peach season is over.

  3. It is fun taking a tour of a blogger's home. It says almost as much as the written words. Love that you have done most of the clever things yourself.

    1. Arkansas Patti; I do like doing things for myself, that way it gets done the way I want it.

  4. LOVE your colour scheme. And skill. And the llama.

    1. Elephant's Child; I love my colours too and don't get tired of looking at my pieces. The lounge room is a bit of a mish-mash, things need painting but I can't afford paint right now and I worry about Lola getting paint on herself and leaving cat hairs on wet surfaces.

  5. I love all the colour...a very cheerful approach.

And I particularly love the curtains you had...great colours, indeed.

Have a great, colourful week ahead, River...and cuddles to lovely Lady Lola. :)

    1. Lee; I like a cheerful look to a home. I still have several of those curtain pieces hanging in the lounge room, faded and shorter now, since I had to cut a new piece for a tablecloth.

  6. Lovely and colourful, when most houses are all painted white or grey these day yours has lots or wonderful colour touches.
I like mangos in my salads.

    1. Merle; I hate mangoes with a passion, although I think I may be the only one.
I think white and grey is too cold to look at. Nature gave us colour and we should enjoy it inside our homes if we can't fill them with flowers because of allergies.

  7. You have quite the artistic flair for decorating I like it. A lot.

    1. only slightly confused; thank you very much. I need to work on my lounge room, but it will take time, probably a long time.

  8. Nice job, i can paint walls, but my touch it not good enough for furniture, and I am a bit sloppy.

    1. joeh; I can't do walls, but have a daughter who can. When we built our first house she and hubby painted all the rooms and laid a slate floor in the lounge/dining area.

  9. Lovely colours, wondered why the golden/yellowish colour was prevalent in the room, 'the light', looks good.

    1. Margaret-whiteangel; I used to have that lightshade in my kitchen, then winter set in and I needed more light for cooking. I like it better in the bedroom, adds that golden touch.

  10. You have excellent taste, your color combinations are striking! The salad combination sounds delightful, too -- i hadn't thought of adding a peach to a salad, i will try it.

Yesterday i got to see some of my Sister-in-Law's artwork.

    1. messymimi; some people don't like my colour combinations. I just tell them to be glad they don't live with me. I wish more people would embrace colour instead of choosing "safe" neutrals. I'll pop over and see your SILs artwork in a minute.

    1. Granny Annie; no need to be jealous. Get a paintbrush and start colouring :)

  12. The small chest (with the alpaca bank on it) really catches my eye! I like bright light colors...

    1. Grace; that is a pretty one. When I found it in a secondhand shop many years ago it was a heavy cream colour with terrible mismatched handles. I stripped it back and bought new handles, filled in the holes from the old ones and went shopping for paintbrushes and masking tape.

  13. The pink and blue-green chest in that 3rd photo would go PERFECTLY with the tile in my supermarket!

I'm jealous of your lettuce. We've had a big recall of it here, where it's called Romaine. I already had two packs that I've been using (with no ill effects) and I'm NOT throwing it out. I'll wait a while to buy more, though.

    1. Val; my whole room would be perfect with that pink and blue floor. I would make the pink middle a bit larger and the blue edging a bit narrower, maybe keep it to 35cm wide.
We had a huge recall of rockmelon (canteloupe), I don't remember what was wrong with it now, some type of food poisoning contaminant.
