Wednesday's Words on a Friday

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles.

The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.

If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along and read it.

This month the words are supplied by Vest and can be found here.

This week's words are:

1. mixture
2. summer
3. footsteps
4. warmth
5. shelter
6. chilly

Here is my short story:

On this wintry afternoon, I stood in the warmth of my kitchen, stirring the scrambled eggs mixture, thinking how the golden colour of it reminded me of the summer sun.

As I stirred the pan and waited for the toast to pop up, I listened for footsteps along the garden path leading to my front door. Would my son make it home tonight?  Or would he be “sleeping rough” again as he already had so many times this year?

Through my window I could see the clouds gathering, could see the branches beginning to sway in the strengthening winds. The evening was getting chilly out there and I hoped he could at least find shelter, somewhere dry to curl up and sleep.
