Wednesday's Words on a Friday

Image
The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems. The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind. If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along and read it. This month the prompts are supplied by Margaret Adamson and Sue Fulcher and can be found here . This week's words/prompts are: 1. orange 2. dizzy 3. perpendicular 4. languishing 5. virtuous 6. theatre and/or: 1. pedestrian 2. laconic 3. stable 4. typewriter 5. dashing 6. branches here is my story: I was almost dizzy at the thought of dashing off a few sentences on my typewriter instead of languishing on the sofa reading about dashing heroes being all virtuous yet laconic at the same time. The news from the latest publishing company had me alm

Sunday Selections

Welcome back to Sunday Selections. Begun way back in the mists of time by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock and now continued by Elephant's Child , who gladly accepted my offer to keep this going, with a drastic relaxation of rules. Originally meant for showcasing old photos lost on your files, never seeing the light of day, the meme has morphed into photos of your choice, new or old, good or not-so-good, anything you please, but nothing rude please. If you are participating, please leave a comment so I can buzz along and have a look. I bought this Halloween Candy bowl so I could fill it with goodies that I knew I would eat myself since we don't get trick or treaters here. The label on the bottom read: Danger: choking hazard. Keep away from small children. you see here the bowl is 30cm across and it is about 12cm high. I don't know a single toddler who can open his or her mouth that wide.  the footpath garden just down the road a bit is in full bloom again. T

This week's words/prompts are: two photos, taken by Bill Dodds, which I have included in my story: Every day for a week, the young boy had been coming through the woods, finding his way unerringly, though he had never been here before. Always wearing the same blue jeans, the same red jacket, with a hood. I believe they call them hoodies these days. But he always stopped near the giant firs.  Afraid to come any further, he would stand by the stump and watch the gl

temperature update

A couple of days ago the predicted temperature for Wednesday November 20th, was 38C That's 100.4F, already too hot for most people, including me Then "they" predicted 40C,  which is104.0F,  getting a little hellish.... Tonight the updated prediction is 42C That's 107.6F That's an extra 2C per day (so far) and it's only for the one day, with days either side being much cooler than that.  Tuesday at 29-30C= 84-86F, Thursday at 25C= 77F WTH?? (if "they" keep adding an extra 2C per day to the current prediction, Wednesday will be 50C=122F ) (highly unlikely) I miss autumn  😔

Australia, the land downunder

Image
A recent image sent to me by 'no-one', a dust storm rolling across a part of Western Australia. the photo was taken by an un-named nurse living and /or working in the area at the time Most of our 'outback' areas have this deep orange/red soil, which doesn't readily grow crops or even grass.

This week's words/prompts are: 1. add insult to injury 2. nothing ventured Here is my story: Laura Patel sat in the bus, miserable and fuming. How could this have happened? She'd been so careful. After watching her older sister Kate suffer for several years, Laura had vowed the same thing would never happen to her.  For the last five years, her meals had been fruits and vegetables, a little meat, fish and eggs. She had eaten not one single biscui

She has become quite a fixture hasn’t she. She’s had a consultation almost every week, she shows a lot of uncertainty, I’m guessing she has no family or friends that she trusts enough to help out.   Or maybe
