Sunday Selections # 595

Image
Long ago, Kim of Frog ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.  A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.  Nothing rude or vulgar though. And we don't mind at all if overseas bloggers care to join us. The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I occasionally join in as do a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to them and have a look. this is one of the ANZAC memorial biscuit (cookies) tins I mentioned a few weeks back and at the other end of the shelf, the black one complete with cobweb hanging from the top and over the C  and some of the pictures on the tin a different set of pictures on the green tin and another cobweb. I should probably clean more often. this is my kindle which I recently dropped (YIKES!), see the top left hand corner where the letters don't show now? It bounced off that corner when it hit

Wednesday's Words on a Friday

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems. The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind. If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words. This month the words/prompts are supplied by Hilary Melton-Butcher and can be found here This week's words/prompts are:  1. jubilant  2. ginger  3. shimmering  4. beachcombing  5. smudge  6. Rosetta Stone  and/or:  1. charcoal 2. wool 3. toga 4. abyss 5. coffee 6. leaves Here is my story: We were reminiscing by the fire after coming home from the restaurant. Our children had treated us to an anniversary dinner and we’d been discussing them and the dinner, when Kevin fell silent. I let him think for a moment, then nudged him gently. “Where are y

here we go again

The newest Covid variants are creating almost more havoc then the original. Mask wearing is back, although it never really left and hand sanitising is still happening, although I prefer good old fashioned soap and water when I can.  Wash it, wipe it down, disinfect this , that, everything else.  But are we forgetting anything in all this?  Do we regularly wipe/disinfect door handles? Light switches? TV remotes? Mobile phones? Car door handles, toilet flush handles/buttons. The fridge. And what about the one thing that gets touched and used every single day. Keys.  Who washes their keys daily? House keys, car keys, mailbox keys?  I take mine into the bathroom and soap them up, rinse them off, as I wash my hands after being out.

five years ago today

Today is an anniversary of sorts. Five years ago, on this date, I walked into the Animal Welfare Shelter and picked up Lola. I’d seen her on the website while searching pictures of cats to see if my Angel had somehow ended up there after being stolen from my front yard three weeks earlier. He hadn’t. But there was Lola, tiny, scared, looking very much like she needed me. I scooped her up from where she was hiding in the corner behind the baskets, while a bigger ginger cat watched from a perch on a high shelf. Being an older cat, at eight years, Lola was cheaper to buy than a kitten. She was already spayed and microchipped and we were soon on our way home. Once there, she scooted out of Angel’s carrier and disappeared under the bed, where she stayed for the next four days. Nothing tempted her to move even close enough for me to get hold of her. I called in a friend who reached under with his longer arms and dragged her out. Traumatic for her I’m sure, but she’d been under there

It's a very long road, stretching North to South, in my street directory it begins as the North-South Motorway at Regency Park on map 93, then goes through about 43 suburbs all the way to Sellicks Beach on map 229, which is the furthest suburb, then it just keeps going south from there. Somewhere in there it becomes Main South Road, at Tonsley which I think is map 141. Anyway, we are on just a small stretch, walk

Trying to weave a thread of an idea into a story sometimes sends me a little insane . I turn on the computer and stare at the desktop wallpaper , hoping for inspiration. a memory from the past-aka my brother could have died

Blogger friend Val recently wrote about an injury sustained in childhood by one of her sons, with both sons not wanting to say how it happened. As a child, I had a similar “say nothing” experience. I was about six, my older sister nine and younger brother either four or five depending on what month this happened. A little background here, sister is somewhat mentally challenged, brother has epilepsy, most nights having a mild seizure as he fell asleep. My parents, for some unknown reason had decided to go out for a few hours. At night. Very unusual. I think the reason was a movie, or maybe that’s just what they told us. Either way, we three were left to our own devices, with instructions to not touch the stove and go to bed at 8.30. They locked the door and we all did our own thing for a while, then brother and me decided we should play Pirates. We needed a ship, so a small square table was turned upside down and to create stormy conditions we rocked that table quite violentl

We'll start today with my bedroom, blog friend Val was interested in seeing the colours of my bedding: This plush blanket which looks grey is actually a pale blue, some of you may remember seeing Lola sleeping on it and it's the same one I mussed up to represent waves when the redheaded dolls were on their Pirate Ship. See the pulled threads? That's from Lola doing that kneading clawing thing as she settles to sleep and is the chief reason I have this blanket, to protect
