Wednesday's Words on a Friday

Image
The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems. The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind. If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along and read it. This month the prompts are supplied by Mark Koopmans and can be found here . This week's words/prompts are:  1. ghostlike  2. holly  3. incidents  4. joking  5. kilogram  6. lactate  and/or:  1. magnanimous  2. needles  3. outboard  4. particle.  5. quiz  6. rancor after a full day spent waiting for inspiration to strike, I was about to give up altogether, then decided to just let the words run free and if they make sense, then it's all good.  Here we go:  After a long evening during which we inhaled about a kilogram of excellent chocolates

Safety First

from the newspaper: "An unexpected loss of the sense of smell may be the first sign a person has the coronavirus, according to medical specialists. And some may develop no other symptoms, meaning they could innocently infect others around them.  Surgeons around the world are reporting that between a third and two-thirds of patients with coronavirus report a loss of smell as their first symptom." Be aware people, if you wander outside and can't smell the roses, get yourself tested. If you are frying onions for dinner but can't smell them, get tested.  In other news, "Woolworths is planning to install protective plexiglass shields at its checkouts to reduce contact between staff and customers and to help stop the spread of the coronavirus." Seems like a great idea to me, fit them out like banks and keep our checkers safe.

from the Sunday mail

this is disturbing: "The Ruby Princess cruise ship was controversially allowed to unload 2700 passengers in Sydney on Friday.  Four people have since tested positive to covid-19 and NSW authorities are now trying to trace all those who were on the ship. Two cases in Darwin also have been linked to the Ruby Princess . It was reported that the Ruby Princess had docked in Sydney on March 8 with 158 sick passengers, although the captain had told authorities he had no ill passengers. Meanwhile, Ovation of the Seas passengers were told - three days after arriving in Sydney - of a confirmed coronavirus case on board." T his is a little scary. Those Ruby Princess passengers could be scattered far and wide by now! In other newspaper news, our Premier, Steven Marshall is considering closing our state borders.  Opposition leader, Peter Malinauskas, is supportive of the idea.  as written:  " We are now increasingly concerned about the rate of infection coming from sourc

"A lot of hoo-ha about the panic buying of toilet paper, people are actually fighting in the shops over it!" said Robert, "and Colgate is on special this we

I heard it on the news

Australian borders are to close at 9pm tomorrow night, that's Friday 20th our time, only Australians coming home will be allowed in and I think there will be no flights out. I didn't hear anything about visitors to Australia being allowed to go home but I expect they will.

PHONE TEXT SCAM WARNING

There is a scam phone text going around regarding the virus with a link claiming to tell people where to get tested, but the link is a TROJAN that STEALS your BANK DETAILS if you have them on your phone.

I'm not missing the sweet stuff...

...not much anyway, I'm allowing myself one cup of coffee a day, with sugar, instead of my usual three or four, and that seems to be enough. But yesterday, I ate a banana and a kiwi fruit and with each bite, I wished they were on a pavlova. I should have lost enough weight by my birthday (August) to allow a pavlova, that's if my triglycerides are behaving themselves.

I slung her under my arm like a sack of spuds and walked o

let's have another Sunday Selections

Let's also go blurbless and jump right in. Syringe wrappers! NOT what you want to see in the gully trap (drain) right outside your own back door and a bagful of someone else's rubbish, with syringe clearly visible, in MY rubbish bin. All the bins are clearly numbered indicating which flat/unit they belong to, but lazy neighbours don't care. for Iris Flavia , my favourite brand of mustard and mayonnaise, imported, both made in Germany and I'm happy to pay a bit more for the good flavour. "Heritage" tomatoes, found in a local supermarket and bought on every shopping expedition since then. I love these because there is more flesh and much less of the juice/seeds combination commonly found in tomatoes these days. More importantly, they taste like the tomatoes I remember as a child.  out in the back porch, inside this green drawer is a labelled brown paper bag filled with layers of paper towel each holding small

ooops, this is not good

I recently had my "fasting" blood test check up, as part of the recommended Heart Health routine, the good news is my cholesterol is well under control and even a bit less than the recommended numbers.  The bad news is my blood pressure is up again, although not as high as it was two years ago. I've been sitting on my bum far too much, reading blogs, reading books, watching dvds, instead of walking. Time to turn that around. The worst news is my triglycerides, whatever they are, have been having themselves some parties and leaving their waste in my liver. Well, there goes all the fun in my life. No more ice-cream, no more chocolate, no more pizza, definitely no more Pepsi, the sugariest thing in the house. Doc says "fatty liver", and diabetes is just around the corner unless I make the necessary changes.  Will I? Of course I will. I'm going to walk my 20kg butt off. And the spare tyre around my hips and the one hugging my ribs.  In the last three day

He ran his fingers lightly across the piano keys, hoping for inspiratio
