From the newspaper

Much talk has been going on here about where to bury nuclear waste, with various sites being proposed by government (near towns and/or in good farming areas) and many people saying "no way! not there!" or "not here!" Various persons over time have written to the newspaper "Letters to the Editor" page with their ideas on the subject and I fully agree with them.  Here's one: " Nuclear Hill Bob Major makes sense in his proposal to store nuclear waste at Radium Hill in lieu of Kimba (Move the dump" The Advertiser, Friday). Radium Hill is geologically stable, has good transport infrastructure (road and rail) and little farming is conducted in the area. Uranium was mined there, so why not put it back? Rod Smith, Semaphore Park " and here's another in today's paper "Geologist knows As respected retired geologist Bob Major has outlined, the ideal site for a low-level repository is at Australia's first uranium mine, Radium Hill

always looking for that dream home in case I win lotto. Did you hear the lotto gods laughing? Yeah, me too. Anyway, I've noticed a newish trend that I don't really like.  They look nice, but.... Free-standing bathtubs. Butted up close to a wall, some are oval shaped, nice, but not "built in", so underneath and around the back, in the corners is going to gather dust, flyaway soaps, bath toys and maybe a few splashes when kids get in the tub. You want you kids clean, right? So, in the tub with them. Unless you routinely hose them off in the backyard. Not at all a bad idea in the Australian summers.  How many of you are willing to do a quick mop up and get back to the tv or dishes or whatever, and how many are willing to do the quick mop up followed by reaching under and around and squeezing yourself into uncomfortable positions to be sure the area under and behind that oh-so-pretty tub are clean and dry?  Every day!  Not me, that's for sure!

Sunday Selections # 612

Long ago, Kim of Frog ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.  A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.  Nothing rude or vulgar though. And we don't mind at all if overseas bloggers care to join us. The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I occasionally join in as do a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look. beginning with grand daughter #2, dressed for her end of year formal dance, looking very pretty. I love her gown. I rescued this statue from a neighbour's garden, have I shown this before? This neighbour has had several bad falls and is now in a care home. See where it is broken down by the feet? here is a closer look, there is quite a gap there and the figures were quite wobbly. the dish at the top which is meant to be a water dish for birds I think, is also broken and the

Wednesday's Words on a Friday

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems. The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind. If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words. This month the words/prompts are supplied by messymimi and can be found here This week's words/prompts are:  1. push 2. leash 3. shelf 4. help 5. talk 6. mail  and a photo.  Here is my story: “ Help ! Someone please, help!” I heard the cry and went running down the street, turning the corner to see a boy tugging desperately at a leash which appeared to be attached to a fence. When I got closer, I saw the leash was actually going through a gate that had pulled itself closed, a large dog was clipped to the leash and had raced through the gate wh

On a whim, I felt like putting a song here for you all and I want to show everyone above the equator what Australia looks like So here it is: by Midnight Oil: This is Australia I tried finding one with the lyrics, but none came up in the search window. I'm sure they can be found online somewhere.  Also, Happy Birthday "no-one" 💖💖

Between home and the shops: the big fancy block of flats fronting on to Fullarton Road are nearing the finish line at last, I saw electricians putting outside lights on the balconies a giant vacuum truck was sucking out construction dust behind the big block of flats, in a side street we can see a row of townhouses being built and on the other end of the fancy flats are more townhouses, using every available inch. No room for gardens here. they are looking nice, though I wouldn

I threw my hands in the air

I totally forgot to include these with the Sunday Selections!

Starting today with a book I just finished reading: How the Other Half Lives, by Jacob A Riis, this is about the tenement slums of New York and all the way through I had to keep reminding myself it was written in the 1880s as part of a study on how the poor immigrants lived. I certainly hope things aren't as bad now as they were then. going for a walk, I noticed this beauty putting her head through the fence the bottlebrush trees are swarming with bees none of which I captu

Is it the gap between my front teeth that tur

Usually I'd put more than a smear of jam, but the jar was almost empty. This weekend is warmer and sunnier, there are flower heads developing on
