Following on again with Toni's A-Z "a...is for" meme, this week's letter is X Only two letters left after this. I thought I'd never see the end........... X ......is for........ x-rays! Kinda obvious, but I didn't want to bother researching some obscure word that no one has ever heard of, although I did think about it. X-rays are a handy way of seeing what's happening inside your skin, under all that muscle. All the bits that hold us together. Without these bones, we'd be slithering along the floor like blobs of.....well, blobs of something. Hospitals use x-rays to determine if a bone is broken and how badly, whether it will knit back together with just being pushed into position and held steady while it knits, or if surgical intervention such as metal pins etc are needed. Dentists will use x-rays to find cavities or decay that can't be seen with a regular mouth exam, they see how many fillings you have, how many root canal...

Following on again with Toni's A-Z, "a...is for" meme, this week's letter is U U..is for uliginous. Bet you've never heard that before. I know I never have.  And if you have then all bets are off. Uliginous, which I found in my dictionary, means>>>> oozy, muddy, moist damp, wet, swampy. and here's another swamp , just because I like the skeleton. U...is for uliginous.

Following on again with Toni's A-Z "a...is for" meme, this week's letter is S S...is for..... Soap. And Soapwort. and Soap making. (Disclaimer: A lot of what you are about to read is taken from the wikipedia pages and other googled sources). Soap making history goes back many thousands of years. The most basic supplies for soap making were those taken from animal and nature; many people made soap by mixing animal fats with lye.  Today soap is produced from fats and an alkali. The cold process method is the most popular soap making process today, while some manufacturers still use the historical hot process. There are many tutorials and classes available these days for people wishing to learn to make their own soap, either for their own home use, or to start a small business. Following on again with Toni's A-Z, "a...is for" meme, this week's letter is Q Q....is for ........hmmm, Q, Q, Q....Q....q....qqqq, ...........nope, got nuthin' I'll have to get back to you.................oh! Wait! I've got something! Q....is for Qantas.  Known the world over as the Flying Kangaroo. Here are some of the older logos, from 1944 to 2007. The oldest logo was modelled on the kangaroo on the pre-decimal Australian penny. I quite like this one with the wings. Flying friendly skies. The Qantas uniform has seen a few changes over the years too. The summer uniform from 1948 to 1959. Here we see a few of the uniforms worn over the years by the Air Hostesses. Are they still called Air Hostesses? The latest uniform was revealed this week in the media and I think it looks really nice. What do you think? A trench coat!    I do like a trench coat. Following on again with Toni's "a...is for" A-Z meme, this week's letter is O. I was having a bit of trouble finding something to write about for the letter O , so I asked no-one for help. She sent me this sentence. "Orchid. You can use the fun fact that the name orchid comes from the Greek 'orkhis' literally means testicle. Heh. Apparently so named because the roots of the plant look like testicles. Which is funny since so many people find it really romantic to be given a bunch of Orchids." Well after reading that, of course I had to google* orchid roots and found out they didn't look like testicles at all.  They do, however, resemble sperm. See? Following along again with Toni's A-Z, "a...is for" meme, today's letter is N. n...is for>>>> Nuggets! Sadly this gold nugget isn't mine, I went googling for these images. Gold is one of my favourite metals, (the other is Silver), I especially like it in nugget form, the different shapes are so interesting. like this one, it's just so ducky! Years ago, when the baby was about a year and a half old, we all took a trip to Sovereign Hill for the day and let the older kids do a little gold panning in the creek. They didn't find any gold nuggets, not so much as a single speck, but we did have a great day out. I even like tiny little nuggets like these here in the watch case. Also golden, but nuggets of a different kind, much loved by kids... chicken nuggets.
