Sunday Selections #509

Image
Long, long ago, in days of yore...Kim of Frog ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.  A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.  Nothing rude or vulgar though. The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I occasionally join in as do a few others. Drop in to Elephant's Child and have a look. Let's begin in my back porch today: Introducing Mr Herb Karret who loves to tend his carrot patch, but when all is done there... he climbs aboard his Harley and hits the open road for a well-earned break once home again, he often climbs the stairs to visit with Sam Baker for tea and cakes the other side of the porch is a messy work-in-progress, but not much progress has been made since the weather heated up and often enough the air out there is a bit lot too strong with whatever certain neighbours are smoking there are boards with tile adhesive

Wednesday's Words on a Friday

Image
The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems. The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind. If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words. This month the words/prompts are supplied by Margaret Adamson and Sue Fulcher and can be found here This week's words/prompts are:  1. furnishing 2. tablet 3. platform 4. arrow 5. frame 6. content  and/or:   1. vase 2. eagle 3. ballroom 4. propelling 5. brand 6. epilogue Here is my story: Propelling myself across the floor in my wheeled computer chair, I scooped up the remote and turned on the television, the finals of the Ballroom Dancing competition was to be televised right after the news, so I had marked the timeslot with a big red arrow and

This month the words/prompts are supplied by Margaret Adamson and Sue Fulcher with photos by Bill Dodd and can be found here This week's words/prompts are: two photos taken by Bill Dodd. I have selected the first photo: I walked as quickly as I could across the intersection, feeling mildly surprised at how quickly the bus had got us to this point. I held the hand of my great-grandson and made my way to the chainlink fencing that marked off what used to be the staff car-parking area. I knew a much larger area was behind the building for the facto

on TV news right now

Thursday, 11.25am, day one of lockdown, NO new cases today. So far.  Fingers crossed.  The entire state is in strict lockdown, not just Adelaide. Yesterday more than 12,000 people were voluntarily tested and testing is still going on.

update

Just watching the news now, tough restrictions from midnight tonight, for six days: lockdown, mandatory masks when leaving the home, only one person per household allowed to go to shops, no outdoor exercise, so no walking around the block for me.  After six days further decisions will be made. Schools and universities are closed, pubs, cafes, takeaway food outlets closed. There's more as I listen but I can't type that fast.

Scary headlines from Adelaide's Advertiser newspaper Monday November 16th 2020

I'm really glad I have a stockpile of disposable surgical masks, it looks like I might be needing them. Here's the news, as written: (the headlines are in bold) Revealed Virus outbreak linked to medi-hotel, wider quarantine ordered NEW CLUSTER A large family with members working in high-risk medi-hotels, aged care, health care and a major prison has recorded three COVID-19 cases in one day, the worst SA cluster to date. The cases are the first community transmission in the state since April 15. Four others in the family are displaying symptoms, while hundreds of people in the northern suburbs have potentially been exposed to the virus. Scores of staff at  Lyell McEwin hospital, where one of the patients was tested, have also been told to quarantine.  Chief public health officer Professor Nicola Spurrier, said detailed contact tracing began yesterday after she received the positive lab results for one of the patients, a woman in her 80s. She said the Parafield cluster was alread

This is one of my attempts to photograph the full moon, just as a breeze blew the leaves of the tree I was leaning against   second attempt, not as close as I hoped, but I am not able to see the horizon and get a better, fuller shot from where I am. I have no idea what this is, I accidentally pressed the shutter button as I lowered the camera on my way  back inside. I would have liked to stay out longer and try for more photos, but people kept looking out their front doors wondering why someone was  wandering around with a camera late at night, plus
