Sunday Selections #740

Image
Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.  A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.  Nothing rude or vulgar though. And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us. The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I join in as do a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look. Wisewebwoman has also been joining us more often. Beginning today with something I saw on the news: Adelaide, my city, is the happiest city in Australia! This was also on my opening news page when I first turned on my laptop one day last week. A nicely curved fence leading into a driveway Autumn leaves against the blue sky Jade bushes are budding for the autumn flush of pink star flowers a geranium that can't decide if it is pink or purple new growth on a rose bush while the existi...

Wednesday's Words on a Friday

Image
The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems. The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind. If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words. This month the words/prompts are supplied by David M. Gascoigne and can be found here This week's words/prompts are:   1.elbows  2.imagine  3.canal  4.heavily  5.population   and/or:  1.mocked  2.months  3.annex  4.support  5.casino here is my story:  (a bit rushed, but I think it's okay) For months they mocked me and the months became years as I built a solid annex to my home, then attached it to a flood-proof, cyclone-proof, fire-proof survival cellar burrowed into the hill b...

Beginning today with the Haighs #1 Chocolate van: The company was celebrating a birthday and I heard later on the TV news they were giving out free chocolates, but not while I was there...😢 Oh well, I'm quite fat enough still, I don't need more chocolate. Love the carriage lamps, and the leather seat. here's the back of the van, 110 years! a little further along Rundle Mall is this Sushi Train, maybe it's new or maybe I just n...

Beginning today with the calendar page for May: I am not one of those people who can't live without coffee, but the first cup of the day sure is nice. At a recent birthday gathering one woman brought along a "sandwich cake" covered in cream cheese and decorated with cucumber, radishes and edible flowers, with the inside layers being wholemeal bread, grated carrot, cucumber, hard boiled egg and prosciutto along with more cream ch...

Good Morning Australia

I guess by now everyone of voting age has seen the election advertisements on television, so I have a question. Does anyone else out there think that Peter Dutton looks like a bald Elon Musk, or is it just me?

Beginning today with South Australia's iconic "Frog Cakes" some of you may have heard of these, some have attempted to replicate them. little squares of sponge cake topped with a ball of cream filling, then coated with fondant icing, a slit cut for the mouth of the frog and two dots of chocolate or white icing (frosting) for the eyes. these little treats are very very sweet and are sometimes made as a mini version as seen here.
