Sunday Selections # 573

Image
Long ago, Kim of Frog ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.  A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.  Nothing rude or vulgar though. And we don't mind at all if overseas bloggers care to join us. The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child (who is currently taking a break) and I occasionally join in as do a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to them and have a look. the next few weeks we will be seeing photos taken by "no-one" with her phone camera in Adelaide's Botanic Gardens. I'm sure you will all agree she has a very good eye for composition. the lake where ducks and turtles live the lily pond which is home to many frogs inside the hollow tree the hollow tree more next week 😀

What do we dream of?

Peace , that's what.  World peace, which we have almost had for some time now. So this seems appropriate now, I think: I hope it plays, it's one of my favourite songs.

If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words. This month the words/prompts are supplied by C.Lee McKenzie and can be found here Next month the prompts will be by me (River) right here on this blog   This week's words/prompts are:   1. enchanted  2. lavish  3. scurrying  4. bouquet  5. smash  6. anyway  and/or:  1. champagne  2. caviar  3. candlelight  4. heart shaped  5. flee  6. excitement Here is my continuing story: “I’d love to hear this idea,” I said with a little excitement in my voice, “Khoral always seems to have good ones.” “I’ll tell you over dinner,” said Terry, “what are we h

is this Australia or America?

How many Australians have seen the advertisement on TV for Aussie Broadband? An Australian company advertising internet broadband for Australian customers which we are then told is only $59 " bucks " per month? Excuse me?  Bucks?  It's Dollars!  Please. Thank you.

We'll start in my garden: the buds on the hoya and a spider web the hoya flowers opened and nobody stole the stem this time as they have in the past I like the way they look from the underside too. a splash of bright yellow in my porch pot my very own Coreopsis, two of the cuttings took while the main stem died Then I took off walking and found: a fat pigeon a cornucopia spiral of flowers and whatever this is meant to be. It's on the corner of a thrift shop called Second Chanc

I finally started sewing something for the girls, first trial run to see how the pattern fits. here it is turned right side out, which is when I discovered I had made a boo-boo and had to do some unpicking, I think I may be a little over ambitious here. almost done, just needs a couple of studs at the back for closing Jordan volunteered to be my model and agreed it is too tight around the neck, "that Skipper girl must be really thin" she said. It is also a little tight aroun

Where are the birthday cards for men?

I went shopping yesterday (in a supermarket, silly me) for birthday cards, one for a son in his forties and three for some of the women in my family, daughter, grand daughter and sister in law.  I had no trouble at all finding cards for the women, but the men's section is sadly lacking in taste as far as I'm concerned. There are cards for older men (grandpa age?) who like golfing, sailing or cars, according to the picture on the card, but none of "my" men fit this image. Other cards are musical, no thank you, and either funny or rude. The funny ones don't suit and the rude ones, well, just say no.  Even cards for younger boys are themed according to what "Hallmark" or whoever deems the current craze. Batman anyone?  Back to the men, so many cards border on vulgar, like how many kegs of beer can you swallow, how many farts will it take to blow out the candles on your cake? All are unacceptable. To me anyway. I don't want cards that are overly mushy

Lola

Many of you may know that my cat, Lola, likes to live under my bed. It's her safe place, dark and quiet when she has her migraines and her hideaway when I'm trying to get her in her carrier to go to the vet. She knows I can't get her out from under, she gets right into the middle where my arms can't reach and if I swipe a broom to get her out, she zips out so fast and hides in other places and I just can't find her.  I decided recently my only chance is to scoop her up while she is sleeping in my bed, so I prepared the carrier and read a book in bed until I heard the purring stop. whenever I am in bed, either sleeping or reading, she is in there with me. So once she was quiet, I scooped her up and into the carrier. She wasn't happy about it, but I told her it would only be a few hours and she could see Dr X, get her shot and be home again. Well, that didn't happen as planned. I phoned as soon as they opened only to discover Lola couldn't be seen until 4
