Wednesday's Words on a Friday

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. The aim of the words is to encourage us to write, a story, a poem, whatever comes to mind. If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along and read it. This month the words are supplied by Granny Annie and can be found here . This week's words are: 1. arbitrary 2. diminution 3. plausible 4. immense 5. temporize 6. pandemonium and/or: 1. garble 2. elan 3. perfunctory 4. bifurcate 5. vermicular 6. toothsome Here is my story:  The cloud of gloom hanging over me is immense , no bifurcation to allow even a single sunbeam to touch down and light so much as a glimmer of the happiness I used to carry so lightly.  This diminution of my previously perceived stature is great and my loss weighs heavily.  The cloud roils above, sinks lower as tears threaten.  I blink them back furio

Breaking News....Musical Monday bites the Dust

I'm very disappointed with the number of music videos that are unavailable for viewing lately.  On my blog for others to see and on others blogs for me to see.  Unavailable Unavailable Unavailable ad infinitum And I've had enough. I'm cancelling my Musical Mondays, starting right now.  I'm very sorry, but I don't see any point in continuing.

Musical Monday # 171

I was introduced to Musical Monday by Delores who copied the meme from another site. I think it’s a fun way to show off some of the music we like and brighten up our Mondays at the same time.  I’ll be finding my clips on you tube , so will simply credit that site since there are often so many versions of everything and I wouldn’t want to accidentally credit the wrong artist. Today’s clip is: The Ames Brothers The Naughty Lady of Shady Lane I think the lyrics here are clear enough to understand.

a request for all manufacturers of pre-packaged coleslaw mixes

How about shredding the stuff a little more finely? or a lot.  I'm tired of picking out huge chunks of cabbage leaf or stem, celery thick enough to be car tyres, and having to slice them myself.  I wouldn't mind if there were less stems and more leaf either. And while I'm complaining, why do so many shreds have to be several inches long?  I have a normal, human mouth. I am not part horse. And where are the smaller sized packs for elderly women living alone?

Sunday Selections # 346

Welcome back to Sunday Selections. Begun way back in the mist of time by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock and now continued by me, with a drastic relaxation of rules. Originally meant for showcasing old photos lost on your files, never seeing the light of day, the meme has morphed into photos of your choice, new or old, good or not-so-good, anything you please, but nothing rude please. If you are participating, please leave me a comment so I can buzz along and have a look. Elephant's Child always participates, and her pictures are always worth seeing. you might find this week's selection a little boring, it's just a couple of things I did in the kitchen: what to do with left over vegetables?   Slice them finely, set aside. In a bowl whisk together two eggs and enough flour to make a smooth batter, not too thin, you should be able to pour it. Whisk in a good amount of grated parmesan, stir in the vegetables, pour the whole mix into a non stick shallow baking dish, top with ext

I did have to look up chthonic. Okay, and a couple of the other words too (*~*) Here is my story:  Lucifer, in human form today, checked the file again, looking carefully to be sure the woman entering the bakery matched the photo pinned to the paper. Yes! This was a bonafide capture. Unlike that last terrible mistake, where thankfully,

Miss Lola

is having a fabulous time skittering around the floor with a ball of scrunched up gift wrapping paper.  I watched her doing the same last night and she tired herself out enough to sleep most of the night instead of galloping around. She did still gallop a couple of times, but just to let me know she was hungry and after she ate she went right back to sleep.  I'm hoping the same will happen tonight, and if I get up at first gallop I can minimise the noise, which so far hasn't bothered Loony, but why take chances? It's quite a joy to watch this eight years old girl playing like a kitten. The paper ball is looking a bit tattered though, I'm going to have to make her a new one.

trouble in Paradise?

Today, Loonie Louie is making a racket upstairs, I think he's drunk and I think he's celebrating the fact Pat may not come home. I think he heard me saying to another neighbour P, that no one is sure when she is coming home or even if she is coming home. He's been playing very loud music, which seems a little odd when he's continually said he doesn't like loud noises. Then there was some very loud door knocking and a bit of a fight in the upstairs hallway, yelling and scuffling. I got so scared I called the police and locked my doors.  Still waiting for the police to show at this point. 4:50pm and things seem to have quietened down. but I'm so shaky inside I can barely type. Yesterday Loonie was bashing his floor above my kitchen, because I'd made a bit of noise prepping and cooking dinner, then again when I washed and dried my dishes. An hour after that there was a lot of yelling, I think at nobody in particular, then he moved on to swearing, F*** you,

A mixed selection today, beginning with last night's dinner: Last week I made a batch of chicken schnitzels and put them in the freezer for future meals. Yesterday I took one out to thaw, and with the help of this sauce, using this recipe, spring onions, capsicum, (bell pepper) and a handful of sliced green beans, I made this yummy Lemon Chicken dinner. here is Lola, all sleek and contented, what a life, eh?

Unwillingly, because responsibility really isn't my favourite thing. I don't mind helping out occasionally, but long term, day to day, is wreak ing havoc with the slothfulness I've become accustomed to. My days, once run by tight routines, are now haphazard

EC is going to be a little late with her post today, but she has a good reason.  Let's begin mine with a little story: I went to visit a neighbour, knocked on her door, then stepped backwards to give her room to push open the screen door. I hadn't noticed that her tiny porch isn't very wide, so when I stepped back, I stepped onto air...and crash landed in her potplants. Three burly neighbours all rushed out to help me up.

Whoops! That's an error

it seems my Words for Wednesday from last month is repeating itself.  Thank you Lee and others who left a comment before I was informed by Jimmy and deleted the little upstager.  I'll have to check and make sure the rest of August isn't going to present an encore.

Calendar Tuesday #9

Image
Welcome back to Calendar Tuesday, which only happens on the first Tuesday each month. Let's kick off with Violent Veg: Better check the roof for any Leeks. Life of Teddy: Gone Fishing and now for Suzy Toronto: Crazy Brave and Wicked Strong Here is what Suzy says about that: If anyone had ever told you that you'd be called upon to face your life Crazy Brave and Wicked Strong, you'd probably have thought they were nuts! But the truth is that some battles in life are scary, and options are not always clear. Crazy Brave means you are willing to take a leap of faith and jump into the fight with your arms flailing, hair flying, and screaming at the top of your lungs. Armed with only a trembling courage, sometimes you have no choice. Crazy Brave is your only option. As you find yourself searching for a strength you thought you didn't have...it's there. Rising from deep within you is the tenacity of a mama bear, and there is a fierceness to your powe
