Sunday Selections #518

Image
Long, long ago, in days of yore...Kim of Frog ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.  A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.  Nothing rude or vulgar though. The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I occasionally join in as do a few others. Drop in to Elephant's Child and have a look. The dozen of today's photos are NOT mine, they come from the camera of my daughter "no-one", taken as the rain bucketed down last Monday. The very welcome rain which also extinguished most of the Cherry Gardens fires. I don't believe any commentary is needed. Well, maybe a little. does that tiny twisted pink leaf look like  a cartoon bird to anyone else? waiting out the rain these are just a few of the books I have newly read or reread since the pandemic shut us all in or homes Three of these are biographies: "A Year in the Mu

Wednesday's Words on a Friday

Image
The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems. The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind. If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words. This month the words/prompts are supplied by Charlotte and can be found here This week's words/prompts are:  1. rivers  2. heavy  3. shell  4. searchlight  5. mischief  6. yell  and/or:  1. arm  2. east  3. fruit  4. languages  5. voice  6. thought  and this photo: Here is my story: I had left Grandmama sitting by her loom, tears running down her face as she began to weave the death shrouds. I had walked across the mountain to the plateau where I could see the point where the raging rivers met.  Never had they risen so high or flowed so strongl

Fire in the Hills! Run for your lives!

Image
Heard news early yesterday of a fire at Cherry Gardens that was declared out of control and moving fast.  A neighbour said he could see the big clouds of smoke from his upstairs window, so I took my camera and got photos.  This morning I woke up to a blanket of thick, stinky smoke outside and some was inside too, having come in via the air conditioner overnight, so I turned that off right away. This morning, after a downgrade overnight, the fire has roared back to life and is heading in the general direction of Bridgewater and the South Eastern Freeway.  Gulp! My daughter and her family live close to that area! I texted her this morning and learned they have been ready to evacuate since yesterday but haven't left yet. They will, of course, if they have to.  Damn, here come the tears.  smoke from upstairs window, highlighted by setting sun around 6-7pm getting thicker now visible from ground level. (yesterday)

In the back porch again: the caravan park beach scene is coming along a frog has booked a beach holiday and seems to be enjoying it backed up against the cliff face is a Tiki Hut with a tiny gnome in a swinging chair which needs adjusting, he looks like he is about to fall out of it off to the right is another Tiki Hut setting, this one could be a restaurant I believe and up on the cliff above them, another, much smaller, miniature Tiki Hut the caravan park now has  "grass" and there is a boardwalk (cardboard packaging) between the caravan

A large stone had shifted revealing a small opening. "A new cave!" he thought an

with all the fuss about mail deliveries being late or not arriving at all, I thought this would be appropriate:  "Funny how Christmas cards, birthday cards and general mail arrive late or get lost but our utility bills always seem to be on time." It's possible Elephant's Child may not participate this week, as she is a little under the weather. it seems Meg shares my love of rock/pop music listening to Baccara "Yes, I can Boogie" "all that dancing has made me hungry, mmm, rockmelon" (canteloupe) I had a burst of energy and cleaned several layers of dust off the furniture look at that shine! meanwhile, out in the fairy/gnomes gardens,   the new Cactus Bar is ready for customers while on the clifftop above, the smaller Saloon already has a happy chappy resting outside
