Z....is for

Image
Following along again with T http://chickchat-toni.blogspot.com oni's A-Z "a...is for" meme, this week's letter is Z. Yay! The end of the alphabet at last! Which leaves me with nothing to write about next Saturday...... anyway... Z z...is for........ zebra stripes. On zebras they look wonderful and if you look closely enough you will notice that the patterns are unique to each animal, no two zebras look alike. there are zebra crossings, a safe area for pedestrians to cross a road, some of them have "real" zebra stripes rather than the straight stripes more commonly seen. Zebra stripes are used on many other items too... boots... jackets.... luggage. You can even have... a zebra themed bedroom if you wish. (I wouldn't, I prefer animal stripes on animals, not fabrics.) Let's not forget the most famous zebra crossing of all.... Abbey Road.

Y...is for

Following on again with Toni's A-Z, "a...is for" , meme, this week's letter is Y. Y...is for  YODA! "A trial of being old is this: remembering which thing one has said into which young ears" - Yoda Very little is known about Yoda's early life. He was from a remote planet, but which one remains a mystery. According to one legend, Yoda originally did not know that he was Force-sensitive at all. His path towards the Jedi began when he left his home planet with a Human friend, (who was also Force-sensitive, but did not know it), on an old barely space-worthy ship en-route to the Core Worlds to seek employment. The Grand Master of the Jedi council, Yoda was one of the most renowned and powerful Jedi Masters in galactic history and has trained Jedi for over 800 years.  He is wise and powerful in the ways of the force, though his small size causes many to underestimate him. Yoda prefers meditation and reflection, spending much time ponde...

X...is for

Following on again with Toni's A-Z "a...is for" meme, this week's letter is X Only two letters left after this. I thought I'd never see the end........... X ......is for........ x-rays! Kinda obvious, but I didn't want to bother researching some obscure word that no one has ever heard of, although I did think about it. X-rays are a handy way of seeing what's happening inside your skin, under all that muscle. All the bits that hold us together. Without these bones, we'd be slithering along the floor like blobs of.....well, blobs of something. Hospitals use x-rays to determine if a bone is broken and how badly, whether it will knit back together with just being pushed into position and held steady while it knits, or if surgical intervention such as metal pins etc are needed. Dentists will use x-rays to find cavities or decay that can't be seen with a regular mouth exam, they see how many fillings you have, how many root canal...

W....is for

Following on again with Toni's A-Z, "a...is for" meme, this week's letter is W. W....is for...windows. Windows are an important part of your home or office, they give you something to look out of when the view inside becomes boring, you can glance outside to check the weather, they can be opened to let in fresh air. And they come in all shapes and sizes, s hip's portholes are windows too. In centuries past windows were small and screens to prevent insect entry were non-existent. Shutters were very common, opened during the day to let in light, closed at night and during violent weather. I think they are a good idea and should be on all homes where the windows are small enough to accommodate them. Like mine. I searched the internet for some time looking for photos of even earlier windows that were often just a shutter held in place by a plank of wood when closed, from the days before glass was readily available to the masses. I couldn't find a...

V...is for

Following on again with Toni's A-Z "a...is for" meme, this week's letter is V. I really had to search hard for something, V isn't an easy letter. There's plenty of things out there starting with V, it was just a matter of narrowing it down to one. So... V V...is for Ventriloquism Ventriloquism is the art of "throwing one's voice", to make it appear that inanimate objects near to you, (or further away if you are really good at it), are speaking. When throwing your voice you must do it without moving your lips at all, that makes it much easier for others to believe that yes, that broom is talking to me, and good heavens!, it's telling me to "clean up my act!" Ha Ha. Most ventriloquists use a dummy of some kind, usually a male or female doll, with the mouth operated by the ventriloquist via a hand through an opening in the back of the dummy. When I was very young, maybe ten or thereabouts, I used to watch Shari Lewis ...
