Words for Wednesday

Image
The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems. The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind. If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words. This month the words/prompts are supplied by Sean Jeating and can be found here This week's words/prompts are: 1.long  2.monk  3.novice  4.spiritual  5.time and/or: 1.ants  2.boy  3.compassion  4.stream  5.trapped use either list or both, or mix and match, just have fun. Charlotte's colour of the month is Carmine as seen above the text here. My own story will hopefully appear on this blog on Friday 30th

Update on the kindle

Image
It still works which is great and I had decided I didn't need a new one after all.  But... see that top left corner where part of the display is missing?  the grey triangle is the original fault and happened when the kindle was accidentally dropped. The whiter bit right next to it is new and happened yesterday when Lola knocked it off my lap, and that has been joined by thin white horizontal lines and a vertical one about an inch in from the left side. This means with every page turn I miss the first word of the text. Usually I can work out what it is, so not a big deal. But it is annoying, so I fiddled around with my budget and can afford a new kindle as long as I buy the cheapest option. So that is what I will do as soon as the outside weather cools enough to not feel like a blast furnace.

The Miracle of Resurrection

Image
Okay, maybe not a proper miracle like Spring and childbirth, but it's good news anyway. When my kindle "died" I tried the usual "hold the on button fr a longer time" and even did that a few times, but it just wouldn't wake up.  I closed its cover and placed it gently in a bedside drawer for its "forever" sleep.  Then I read Andrew's comment and thought "it can't hurt to try again." So I did.  And it turned on! A lovely little yellow light appeared showing that it needed charging, so I plugged her in. look at that sweet little glow the index pages came back showing that all 410 books were still there. This is all easy reading, murder mysteries, a few Private Detective type stories, nothing at all heavy or intellectual.  Finally, the prettiest little green light I ever saw. I will speak to "no-one" soonish and see if  she will help me with transferring the books if I can't manage it myself. Just in case this happens ...

Sunday Selections #776

Image
Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.  A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.  Nothing rude or vulgar though. And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us. In memory of Elephant's Child, the meme is now continued by myself and a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look. Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally. the redheads are reunited at last: Gillian, "I missed you so much" "we have a lamp now! and a table" "Mum made them for us" "Come back inside and see what I brought you" "Christmas dresses!!" "We love them 😀 thank you Aunty N" Riley: "I'm a (Christmas) Tree standing under a tree" This is one of our public phone booths out on the street Looks a little beat up, it...

Blogger seems to be playing games and I am unable to reply to the last few comments on my post, so I'll do it here: messymimi; thank you, I think Jim is trying to figure out his future, Archaeology or Historian. I hope he finds a balance and gets to do both. Margaret D; thank you, I used bits of memory from books I had read and my dad's love of cream cakes. Iris; Thank you. Absolution means different things to different people I think. I chose the forgiveness option.

They found William in the common gam...

Sunday Selections #774

Image
Charlotte's colour of the month is Carmine, a lovely shade that is a tad pinker than red, but not enough to be crimson. Drop in to their blogs and have a look. Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally. Beginning today with one last "Christmas House" a near neighbour decorated her/his porch area a discarded football beanie. On purpose? Maybe someone was disgusted with the team? More likely accidentally dropped. Someone got a new bed for Christmas and left the old mattress out on the footpath, that dark...
