Sunday Selections #784

Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.

In memory of Elephant's Child, the meme is now continued by myself and a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.

Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.

Meg: I heard mum say something about painting some walls.

Jordan: I'd like that, I wonder what colour?

Wow! The blue is beautiful, like an ocean. And we have the sun chairs back at last.

There is only room for two, so we shall ask Mum for the Barbie doll seat back as well.

Yay! The piano is back!

Let's rock this place!

on a block not too far from my home a beautiful old bungalow has been demolished and here a sprinkler is keeping the dust from flying all over as the digger clears the loose soil into piles.

I love the bareness of the branches on this tree close to the twins home and would like to prune my own plum trees to look more like this. I know that won't happen, not without help anyway.

Same tree, slightly different aspect.

About halfway between my home and the Foodland Supermarket is this gorgeous Bouganvillea, and it was swarming with bees which made me happy.

The blue covers of my old Thesaurus is fairly close to Charlotte's colour of the month Ocean Twilight. You can see the edges are all held together with black gaffer tape, I have had this book for over twenty years.

here is one of the "resting" page pictures in my new kindle

and another one.

"no-one" has used a toddler wading pool to plant and grow her miniature pumpkins.

finishing this week with another of "no-one's" pot plants, I did look up what this was but have since forgotten. It is a lovely shade of purple, brighter than the photo shows.

  1. Ooh! I love the painted wall and the sun chairs. The colors are pleasing. I also like the patters on your resting pages, and the bare tree trunk/limbs.

    1. Val; I love the bare tree trunk/limbs. The "walls" are cardboard boxes and I hoped they wouldn't collapse under the weight of the paint.

  2. That's a very interesting purple plant! I have no clue what it is. Bougainvillea is always a pleasure.

    1. Steve Reed; I love the plant and wish I could remember what it is. I could ask "no-one".....
I love Bouganvillea, but prefer the pinks, purples and reds over the orange variety.

    2. According to my plant ID app it's called "Persian shield," or Strobilanthes auriculata.

  3. I love the blue wall. And that piano is too cute!!!!!

  5. Dust from building sites is awful, in spite of spraying water constantly.
The gum tree is a great shape.
I have those same resting pages on my Kindle. I like typewriter key one best but there is a good pen nib too.

    1. Andrew; I like the pen nib picture too, and the pencil points. I love that gum tree. Dust is awful from building sites, but only if the wind is too breezy I've found and keeping it all damp helps.

  6. The clever Eucalyptus trees often have smooth trunks because they are dropping their awful outer bark to expose the clean smooth bark underneath. I am not sure if this process gets rid of parasites and fungi. Or it saves Australia's very limited water supply in summer for the branches and leaves at the top of the tree.

  8. The Redheads sure have fun! But ow. Why tear down a bungalow?!
We had a plum tree (in my family´s garden). It was tiny and had deep-blue plums. To the bees! And blooming - how nice, and important.
Hihi, I still have a yoga-book from the 1970´s... looks alike... I should restart with yoga...
Oh, my brand-new kindle... nearly unused.
Planting - will you believe it. One of the flower caskets when we were in Perth made it´s way to the ground. Maybe pic to come of the second...

    1. Iris; I don't know how I missed your comment. The old bungalow was possibly riddled with rising damp or termites or both and might have had badly cracked walls as well. I had two plum trees in my previous garden, both had lovely deep red flesh and were very sweet.

The tree looks very special - I like it. I hope the newbuilding is attractive, though I suppose it will take some time to build.

    1. Wisewebwoman; probably the beautiful old house had rising damp, termites or cracked walls, maybe all three. Many of Adelaide's older house have those problems. The blue was the last 1/4 inch left in the bottom of the can.

  13. What fun the redheads are having in their bright digs.

It’s sad to tear down a pretty house and put up, well, it’s usually something not so pretty.

I very much enjoyed your selections, especially the purple whatever-it-is.

    1. messymimi; the girls are getting a whole new look, I found some lovely white/grey tiles on a roadside dump, but half of them will have to be cut in half to fit properly. The purple whatever is a "Persian Shield" according to Steve Reed and I remember now thta's what my phone app said at the time. I am curious as to what will replace the old house too.

    1. Ruby Rose and the Big Little Angels 3; I do too, but here it is often necessary as they are too damaged to be repaired. Many older people sell up when they go to nursing homes too and developers buy then put up townhouses or apartments on the block.
