Sunday Selections # 406

Skipping the intro blurb because my mind is all over the place with changes that are going on here:

every year Elephant's Child goes to see the Floriade show and buys a few fridge magnets to send to people who would like one. I always put my hand up

and here is my collection

from a little bit further away, see those teeny tiny stars on my fridge?

here's a close-up. They are pastel coloured, gold edged and no more than a quarter of an inch (5-6mm) across at the widest point. They also glow in the dark!
I've been looking for more of these for years but can't find them anywhere. Anybody know of any?
I bought these about 16 years ago.

during our contaminated strawberry scare, I began buying strawberries anyway, because I always cut them up, but there were some odd shapes in my punnet. (other people reported odd shapes too)

Angel wings..

and this, a smaller angel perhaps?

Fruchocs are a favourite sweet in Australia, peach&apricot fruit centres dipped in chocolate, recently a strawberry variety was introduced.
Notice at the top of the pack, tiny white lettering that says "Tear here" to open of course,

at the bottom of the pack is this delightful message. The strawberry pack has a different message but I can't remember what it said.

finishing now with dinner, home made burger patty and a salad.

  1. It is funny when we get fruit that are such interesting shapes. A friend of mine was once looking for a strawberry to use as a model to draw, and she frustratingly said, "How come none of the strawberries in this basket look like strawberries!" We both laughed, of course.

That company has a delightful sense of humor, and i like your dinner and your magnets, i hope you can find more of the stars.

    1. messymimi; I'm not holding my breath on the stars, but I'll keep hoping too.

    1. Why don't we have them in the US?

    2. Grace; Fruchocs have been a favourite South Australian production as long as I can remember. My dad loved them almost as much as Cherry Ripe bars.
fishducky; I don't know. I don't think we export them anywhere. The company is South Australian.

  3. Not just anyone would even find that message

    1. Author R. Mac Wheeler; I only noticed it because I laid the pack down beside the computer. Now I look for it each time I buy Fruchocs.

  4. I would eat all the apricot first. Or perhaps save them for the last!

  5. Changes? I hope they are positive.
I don't think I have ever seen Fruchocs. And will look out for them. And love that message on the bottom.

    1. Elephant's Child; definitely positive changes, but it has meant more people here than usual and me being me, I've been a bit irritated by it all, and Lola has picked up on that. Plus it's hayfever season and her allergies have her scratching great raw patches around her neck. Fruchoc are South Australian, but I would have thought you could get them in Canberra. I'm pretty sure Melbournites can get them.

  6. Strawberries as nature intended, rather than as supermarkets intend. That is a really funny thing on the packet of Fuchocs. Don't such things make you immediately feel good thoughts about the company who makes them.

    1. Andrew; I love 'nature grown' strawberries far better than the perfectly shaped, forced ripened tasteless lumps that usually pass for strawberries.
The notice on the Fruchocs pack did put a huge smile on my face.

  7. I probably ate more strawberries this season than any previous season...and I always go crazy on strawberries during the season, but this past season even more so...purposely.

I'm glad they've caught that woman who started it all off. She should be locked up forever and the keys thrown away! Same should happen to the copycats if ever they're caught!

I hope all is well, River...take good care...may the coming week treat you kindly. Cuddles to lovely Lady Lola. :)

    1. Lee; I probably ate more berries this year too, now that South Australian berries are in the shops I'll keep buying them too. Previous purchases were QLD and WA berries as ours weren't ready yet. All is well here, changes are settling and Lola is scratching less as hayfever season is almost over for her.

  8. Dinner looks good.
The strawberry scare was a bit odd most people cut there strawberries up to serve them.

    1. Merle; dinner was delicious, I much prefer my own home made burger patties. I've always cut my strawberries, so while at first I didn't buy any, I got over that idea pretty quickly.

  9. I think the second strawberry pictured looks like a pair of wedding bells. Dinner looks delicious, and I want it right now!

The FruChocs remind me of the Fruit Medley that I love. That's what I ask for at Christmas. Walmart usually has it. The bag contains chocolate coated pieces of strawberry, cherry, apricot, and blueberries.

    1. Val; wedding bells! I knew that shape reminded me of something. Dinner was delicious and I still have a couple of those burger patties in the freezer. should I mail one to you?
      (*~*)
Fruchocs are a minced peach/apricot mixture rolled into balls and dipped in chocolate. You could probably make your own if you wanted to get that creative. Here in Australia, Fruit Medley is a mix of chopped dried fruits that people can eat as is, or add to cereals. I know someone who used to bake cookies with fruit medley for her children who were silly enough to refuse all other "real" fruits.

  10. Those Fruchocs sound tasty, don't think I can find them here though.

    1. joeh; you won't find them there, Fruchocs are a South Australian icon. The family business started small and has grown quite a bit, but they are still only South Australian. I believe Fruchocs do get sent to Melbourne in Victoria, but not anywhere else that I know about.

  11. I don't think there any strawberries in stores now up here. If they are they would be spendy.

    1. peppylady (Dora); Strawberries are out of season for you now. I know they get expensive when they're out of season here, but they're reasonably cheap here right now.

  12. They look like lovely strawberries, doesn't matter the shape.
    You meal looks very nice..

    1. Margaret-whiteangel; the strawberries were perfect, fully ripe, red all the way through (a nice surprise as they are often white inside with no flavour) and very sweet. The meal was nice and I think I'll have the same tonight. I have all the ingredients.

  13. Would love to try Fruchocs though if you hadn't mentioned it, I probably never would have noticed the end of the bag.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Arkansas Patti; if you like slightly tangy fruits wrapped in chocolate, these would be for you. but you'll have to move to South Australia.

  15. Poor Lola; I hope she doesn't develop an infection from all that scratching. I've been scratching, too, as the air is to dry. It's hard to remember to apply lotion BEFORE the itching starts.

    ReplyDelete
  16. jenny_o; I should probably take Lola back to the vet for another cortisone shot, but the last one was less than a month ago and cost me $100. she is scratching a bit less now, but has great patches where the fur has been scratched out.

  17. BTW - They will ship fruchocs (or any of the other treats they make) any where in the world - just as long as you pay the shipping!!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Grace; I knew that about the shipping. Same with most small family owned companies.

  19. What an interesting assortment and I love your choice of dinner as it looked delicious.
I don't think I've ever seen Fruchocs in our shops but must ask Phil next time he goes shopping.
If Lola has allergies are there no medications similar to Claratyne that can be administered to a cat. $100 sounds rather expensive for one shot. Hope she is better once spring has passed.
