Wednesday's Words on a Friday

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles.

The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.

If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along and read it.

This month the words are supplied by Elephant's Child and can be found here.

This week's words are:

1. peel
2. justify
3. wall
4. employee
5. temperature
6. roll

and/or:

1. volume
2. revenge
3. fraud
4. explain
5. weak
6. vague

Here is my story:

The full volume of his voice roared through the factory floor. “Fraud? Who dares to call me a fraud!?”

He pointed to an employee quivering in his seat. “Peel yourself off that chair and explain to me why I am a fraud!”

The employee stood against the wall and tried to explain in a way that wouldn’t cause the temperature in the already hot room to rise any further.

“Well sir,” he began, “you look like the rest of us, you did a good job with that, but you are still quite, ummm, different.”

A glare from the Alien had him wishing he could just walk right through the wall and run home as fast as he could.

“Keep talking,” the Alien said. “I would learn where I went wrong so I can do better!”

“It’s little things mostly,” said the employee. “We aren’t as pink as you probably learned and some of us are other colours, like brown or even black.”

“Like this?” said the Alien as patches of his skin began to change colour.

“Well, yes,” said the employee, “but none of us are all colours at once. For instance a brown person is brown all over, a black person is black all over, some of us white people have very white skin and some of us are pink where the sun touches our skin and some of us turn light brown from sunshine.”

“Light brown?” said the Alien. “What is light brown?”

Another employee spoke up, “like a weak shade of regular brown, like me, I’m light brown, it’s called tan and in the cold months my skin goes back to white because there is not enough sunshine.”

“This is all very vague,” said the Alien. “I begin to think my instruction was not properly done.”

“That’s right,” said yet another employee, emboldened by the fact the first two hadn’t been blasted to smithereens or whatever these Aliens do to enemies.

“We don’t have wheels on our feet to roll around on, like you do.”

“But I’ve seen them!” roared the Alien, who didn’t seem to be able to lower his voice at all.

“What you’ve seen are what we call skates,” said the third employee. “They are wheels attached to boots that we then put on our feet to roll around. We don’t wear them all the time and certainly not to work.”

“Anything else?” roared the Alien.

A timid girl behind him spoke up,” you presented yourself as Mr Mulholland, that’s our boss, but I think you didn’t see him before you manifested yourself here. Mr Mulholland isn’t as tall as you and not round like you either. He is short and thin and wears glasses to be able to see properly.”

“So I have many mistakes that I must correct before I can call myself human?” asked the Alien. “My teachers have led me wrong. Perhaps they thought to “play a joke” as you humans sometimes do. I shall return to Isotopiapalooza and plan my revenge on them. They will be begging to justify their actions.”

  2. This was really stupid, until I realized it was Alien, not Allen...then it became very imaginative.

    Well done!

    1. Elephant's Child; I had no idea at all what to do with the words, so I let the imagination run free. Glad I could help.

  5. Well, i'm sure he will do better next time, and i hope he means no harm. Although, what did he do with the real boss?

    1. messymimi; I have no idea what he did with the real Mr Mulholland, but I worry that if he gets too clever he may eventually never get found out and what will happen then? When he brings his friends?

  6. I'm wondering what a human would see if he stowed away on the trip back to Isotopiapalooza!

    1. Val; what a thought! That would make a great story. Maybe. I'd have to find out what Isotopiapalooza is like. Or perhaps just the inside of the spaceship...
