a rather unfortunate spelling mistake

  1. Heh, heh! Maybe that's why Ariana Grande licked those donuts a while back!

    1. Val; I'll have to watch that a bit later.

    2. Okay I watched, and I didn't see what I consider licking, probably she just touched the tip of her tongue to it, which is just as bad, but I imagined she'd picked up a donut licked across the top of it then put it back. Which is a whole extra level of yuk. Then of course the boyfriend did it too.

  2. Oops. That is perhaps the best example of a 'slip of the tongue' that I have seen.

    1. Elephant's Child; hopefully people will have the sense to realise it is a mistake.

    1. Charlotte; funny, but also sad that people can't spell tong.

    2. Yes, true. It is sad that people cannot spell, I often laugh when shopping. Some might be foreigners like me ;) Long live spellchecker - which unfortunately can not help with signs. 3 typos corrected in this small paragraph. English is difficult ;)

  4. The spelling is not a simple mistake but a major one. It is funny though.

    1. Andrew; funny, but sad. It isn't here in Australia though. I should have read where it is from.

  5. OMG. And I kinda bet some idiots will do exactly that, too!
Funny. When English isn´t your ... now to get back to that ... mother tongue, mistakes like that likely will not happen. I would never mistake where and were and such, you get drilled at school on this.

    1. Iris Flavia; I'm sure most people would realise the mistake. At least I hope they will.

    2. That was just a little bit of irony - yes, I hope people get that mistake as what it is!!!

  6. Hahahahaha!

I guess there was a lot of bread left on the shelves there! :)

    1. Lee; I wouldn't have bought any, just in case someone did what the sign says.

  7. You would think they would have spell check on those supermarket signs. Of course, "tongue" would not alert spell check.

    1. joeh; I'm guessing English isn't the person's first language, but it should have been checked.

  8. That is funny but I agree with Lee. No way would I buy any bread there. There are always those who take everything literally.

  9. Oh, dear. That's an unfortunate error, isn't it? But funny as all get-out. Hopefully, everyone just laughed at the sign and grabbed the tongs. Reminds me of the story in the news here about the guy who posted a video of himself licking a gallon of ice cream, and then putting the top back on and replacing it in the freezer section of the grocery store. Even though he later claimed to have bought that gallon of ice cream, the ice cream company removed every gallon from the store and the guy got a (well-deserved) huge fine.

    1. Susan; I'm wondering how that could happen with the ice cream. Over here all the lids are sealed and can't easily be opened. Serves him right about the fine though.

  10. I almost believed it (in the present day circumstances about hands being contaminated)

    1. Haddock; it's been a while since you've been here. I believe it's possible for someone to make that mistake, but it should have been checked and fixed before putting the sign up.

  11. Unbelievable. I'd be interested in knowing what the clerk who wrote it thought he/she was writing.

    1. Joanne; possibly it was written by someone who has English as a second language.

    2. Joanne - it was meant to be "tong" or "tongs", I believe.

  12. That is funny but unfortunate . . . not sure I'd have taken a chance on the bread there!

  13. That cheered me up no end! See so many spelling mistakes in supermarkets but not many that turn the sign into something completely different than intended!
