Wednesday's Words on a Friday

Image
The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems. The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind. If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along and read it. This month the prompts are supplied by Lee and can be found here . This week's words/prompts are:  1. mythology  2. contemporary  3. instinct  4. overture  5. banter  6. groundbreaking   and/or:  1. barrier  2. captivate  3. companion  4. unique  5. affair  6. interior  Here is my story:   Richard hung back in the corner of the room, wishing he hadn't come. This office party was going to be just as disastrous as every other. Since high school, there had been a barrier between himself and every other person on the planet it seemed.  As he sipp

it's been a while and I still haven't found most of the photos I've been wanting to post, but here are a few: for Joanne : this is the "Dollop" Cream I mentioned in one of her comment pages, it's also gluten free this is how firmly it holds its shape on the spoon, just scoop and dollop onto whatever you've made that requires cream as a finishing touch. for Val : concrete ladybugs on a concrete boot, they need a coat of paint after several years in the sun. These are in a yard a couple of blocks away where there are many such surprises behind the fence. For messymimi : a pretty gate to join in with Gosia's Good Fences meme this glorious burst of colour caught my eye the first time I walked up this particular street, so of course I took the camera next time. They are dwarf or French marigolds, in amongst the oranges and the yellows, there are orange/reds, yellow/reds, and red/burnt ora

I'm having a spot of bother

aka: one of the reasons I don't do Sunday Selections I go out and about with my camera fairly often, although far less than I used to and when I remember I'll load the photos onto the computer.  And then I can't find them.  There are so many folders in the pictures files and I used to keep them well labelled, but now the camera loads them into whichever folder it wants to and I don't have a hope of finding them without spending an entire day, then cutting and pasting them into yet another new folder.  Think I'll go and read a book instead 😒

lots of noise and dust around here

As happened several years ago, we are again having the driveway and car parking areas ripped up and relaid.  The ripping up of the part nearest me happened yesterday, I took photos of the huge machine that rips up the road surface, grinds it into particles, then spews it out via a long conveyor tube thingy into a waiting truck.  I kept my doors and windows closed, apart from the photo taking, but still somehow breathed in too much dust or whatever and spent a good part of the day and night coughing in between breathing Ventolin through my spacer.  Today the new surface is being laid and steam-rollered, and I imagine another layer will be added tomorrow since the finishing date is set for the 25th.  I n spite of today's fabulous sunny weather, I've been stuck inside with aching ribs and back from the coughing yesterday, so I've been watching episodes of The X-Files.  Here is a line I heard yesterday from an episode in season 6: "They're about as useless as a

It was a much smaller place, with very little storage space, but in my previous home, my outlook had not been so good, with escalating rent, less working hours, so I thought I

my lucky number is 5

always has been, from years back in school when we all added up the letters of our names and reduced the total to a single digit.  Any way I wrote it, full name, nickname, middle names added in,  the total was always 5 I bought a ticket for tonight's lotto draw, it has 5 games on it Today is the 5 th day, of the 5 th month  and the prize draw for tonight is 5 (million) add them up people.  That's 5 fives 5x5 What do you think my chances are?

Why??

F...ing thieves!! this morning I went out to look at my garden, thinking I might move a few pots to better spots and what did I find? Three hanging ornaments gone! Three sitting ornaments gone! Two tiny ceramic pots gone! I'd planned on planting them with marigolds in the spring. My favourite, the Philodendron Xanadu gone! Ripped out of its pot and taken! I spent the rest of the morning taking down the rest of the hanging ornaments and putting them away. I took up the rest of the standing ornaments and put those away. I pulled up the miniature windmill and put that away too. Then I rolled up my garden hose and put that away. Then I looked at the front porch table where I have a few other small ornaments.  Should I take them in too? Should I leave them?  I took them in!  The one thing I hate  about living here is the lack of fences.  There are a few other hates, but let's not get into that.
