Words for Wednesday
The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems.
The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.
If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words.
This month the words/prompts are supplied by River and can be found here
**next month the words will be supplied by Sean Jeating at Elephant's Child's blog
This week's words/prompts are:
1.olympian 2.support 3.tabby cat 4.mountain 5.fireplace 6.clothesline

DeleteAn OLYMPIAN is coming to stay at our house this weekend and there are so many things to do. I have to wash the clothes, put them on the CLOTHESLINE and on the way I must be very careful not to trip over the TABBY CAT as I have done so before and hurt my arm. There is the FIREPLACE to be cleaned, take out all the ash in it and white wash it. I’ll give much SUPPORT to the olympian as I was one once too, and as we live not so far from the MOUNTAIN and can see it from inside we can tell if there has been a good snowfall or not which will be of help for the event being held up there the weekend after. Skiing of course :)
ReplyDeleteMargaret D; thank you for joining in, your story is excellent.
DeleteNicely done!
DeleteA former Olympian trudged around the mean streets of Adelaide seeking financial support. She held her hand out and occasionally received a dollar or two. Though she had once stood in the limelight, all she had left now was her precious bronze medal and her tabby cat Athens. To achieve that medal had been like climbing a mountain without ropes. There it hung above her fireplace on a length of frayed clothesline. Maybe there are still a few sports fans out there who remember Elsie Trump's lifts in the weightlifting arena in 2004 and the beauty berry purple leotard she favoured when performing her squat thrusts on behalf of Australia.
ReplyDeleteYorkshire Pudding; that's quite sad to think of her trudging around and I do hope things improve for her. The purple leotard is a nice touch. Thank you.
DeleteYorkshire Pudding: Is this a true story? Probably didn't matter as so many people ended up this way. Sad but true.
DeleteHave a lovely day.
An excellent use of the words, and very sad.
What a fun story! I'd love to hear more about the mystery.
DeleteMoltes gràcies, Mimi!
Deletesa lluna; this is exciting and intriguing, I love the wind whispering secrets.
DeleteMoltes gràcies! ;-)
DeleteI'm always late but I wrote something - Fiction: Until Next Month. Thank you for the prompts.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day.
lissa; I read your story and liked it.
DeleteSeveral generations before that of Thal, Kael, Lyri, and Eldrin, and even before that of Vondran, there had been peace in the forests for most of each year. There were trade and commerce between the wood elves, gnomes, and fairies.
ReplyDeleteBut at some point, a more competitive wood elf suggested that they hold an annual competition of Olympian style games to see who was really "the best" in the forest. Naturally, each of the competitors had the full support of their villages, and it was all fun and games. For a while, anyway.
No one remembers the whole story of what happened, but what was passed down from generation to generation was that it was suggested one year to have feral tabby cat races down the mountain. As one could imagine, the race didn't go as planned. Cats, feral or domesticated, are not known for their willingness to follow commands, especially when there is something small and possibly tasty riding on their backs.
Later, the story that was shared by the men folk around fireplaces with warm whiskey making the tales longer, was that the village of the spotted black caped clan had deliberately sabotaged the games in order to gain a trade monopoly in the forest.
The women whispered across clotheslines that it had been the oak clans, while others insisted it was the river clans, or the mountain clans who had been responsible for the massacre.
Regardless of who or why, the damage was done. Darkness and distrust began to spread in the forests, and friendships between the elves, gnomes, and fairies were sharply severed. Soon the wars would begin, kingdoms toppled, gnolls rose up from the black earth and shadows, and The Grimma was born.
Cindi; an excellent chapter and I hope peace may reign again one day soon.
