Sunday Selections #807
Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.
A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.
Nothing rude or vulgar though.
And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.
In memory of Elephant's Child, the meme is now continued by myself and a few others. Andrew is one. Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.
Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.
Charlotte's colour of the month for September is Vivid Tangerine
The first wattle trees are blooming, always a sign that spring is almost here
at my last visit to the twins they picked a few flowers from their garden for me to bring home,
I put them in water as soon as I got home and they lasted quite a while, the lighter yellow one a full week after the other two died. That decorative pumpkin on the right fits Charlotte's Vivid Tangerine.

This picture is from my brother R showing a delicious dinner he made for himself with chilli garlic prawns (shrimp) and pasta in a creamy sauce.
We don't hear much these days about the war in Ukraine, so I thought I'd let people know that we in Australia haven't forgotten

a capsicum (bell pepper) bought by "no-one" had baby green capsicums inside it. I suggested she save the seeds and plant them to see what grows, but she had already thrown them out and wasn't thrilled with the idea of rummaging through the bin.

Haven't forgotten about the war in Ukraine. Or the war with Iran right now. Or what happened to Israel. Or currently to Christians in Africa. Lot of wars and persecution going on right now.
ReplyDeleteAlex J. Cavanaugh; remember when it was supposed to be a four day war that Russia expected to win? And now it just drags on and on like all the other wars. I wish I could wave a magic wand and fix it all.

DeleteMy family has some very proud redheads and your little redheads are gorgeous. Where do they come from?
ReplyDeletehels; no redheads in my family though a reddish tint in our hair for some of us. My Redheads are based on the "Madeline" character in storybooks of orphans in a French Boarding School. I bought them one at a time from ebay years ago before they became so horrendously expensive. Online friends in the US have larger collections.

I still feel a little joy on Monday mornings when I know I don't have to go to work.
Andrew; the card is definitely a keeper along with several others fron "no-one" over the years. I have seen a capsicum with one or two baby green ones but never a full ring like "no-one's". if I ever see another one I shall save the seeds. Monday mornings for me are just one more day in a long line these days.

messymimi; the wars make me angry too, they seem to serve no purpose apart from "we don't like them so let's kill them" or "they have what we want so let's kill them and take it". both of which are totally senseless reasons..

ReplyDeleteRuby Rose and the Big Little Angels 3; it's waTTle, not waFFle, and the trees are from the acacia family, known Australia wide as Wattles. There are several varieties.
DeleteThe wattle blossoms are such a cheerful sign of spring, and the twins’ flowers must have brightened your home beautifully. I love the pop‑up butterflies card -- such a sweet keepsake.
ReplyDeleteVeronica Lee; I love seeing the first wattles each year, but miss the lemon scented one that was removed years ago when new housing was built on that block. "no-one" has given me many "pop-up" cards over the years and I have kept every one of them.

ReplyDeleteOn FB the war in Ukraine is very present. But very good on you to make it present for others in your place! This war is such a waste. Yesterday and today? two American politicians firs went to Moscow and the to Kyiv - I have a faint hope to hear something good in the news...
Iris; the flowers from the twins were nice, they have a whole bed of marigolds in their front yard. It's good the Ulraine war is still somewhere online at least, not much is heard on the TV news anymore, just when something gets bombed. I wish there would be good news soon.

ReplyDeleteMargaret D; thank you, "no-one" is great at choosing cards and seems to know exactly what everyone would like. I'm glad to hear you haven't forgotten Ukraine. All the other useless little wars are just as bad.
DeleteI used to love Garfield when I was in high school. He was all the rage back then. (Both of the cartoons you posted are from the year I graduated!) I was thinking about Ukraine today -- but you're right that it has faded in many people's minds into a sort of omnipresent conflict, with none of the urgency it had before. (The Ukrainians don't feel that way, I'm sure.) Bravo to you for keeping it front and center with the sign on your door and the red-heads!
ReplyDeleteSteve Reed; the Garfield comics are from an old book found in a street library, it looks a bit battered but thankfully still readable. I think about Ukraine everyday because I see the flag on my door just by looking to my left. It's true the urgency has faded from the news because it has dragged on so long and other small wars are being talked about with the Strait of Hormuz being foremost lately. Just yesterday the US bombed some oil tankers!
DeleteSuch a variety today. I'm not much of a shrimp or pasta fan, but your brother's dinner looks delicious. I like the dresses on the redheads, matching, yet not alike. The pepper is amazing. I bet it's one-of-a-kind. The butterfly card is special. I would keep opening and closing it!
ReplyDeleteVal; thank you, I did keep opening and closing the card off and on all day, but it is safely stashed away now wiht all the others. I love shrimp, which we call prawns, but rarely buy any as they are so expensive. I bought the Redheads dresses online, a woman was selling one on ebay so I bought it to see if it would fit the dolls and it did so I contacted her and asked for more in different colours.

DeleteI like how you slipped in the tangerine color. That's the color popping all over my house! We're having rainy, gloomy, fall like weather, which I love, and I hope it stays! We still have some blooms and it is nice to see those but I'd rather be seeing snow! Lol.
ReplyDeleteI've had that same thing happen with bell peppers and every time I say I'm going to plant the seeds I don't. :( When you use bell peppers do you just chop up the whole thing seeds and all and cook with it or do you scoop the seeds out. I'm a seed scooper but some people aren't. - I hope you had a great weekend, River!
Magical Mystical Mimi; it's probably the only tangerine thing in my entire house. I am definitely a seed scooper with bell peppers.
