Sunday Selections #816
Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.
A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.
Nothing rude or vulgar though.
And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.
In memory of Elephant's Child, the meme is now continued by myself and a few others. Andrew is one. Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.
Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.
This is the blue-tongue lizard (Bluey) that my brother used to feed once a week, he is now divorced, but V has taken over the weekly egg breakfast that Bluey has become used to.
I have rediscovered a cracker that I used to eat long ago, lately I feel queasy after eating bread of any type, so these are a good substitute.
here is what they look like, a water-cracker (no fats), crisp and flaky when biting in.
I most often smear on a bit of vegemite and add some cheese if I have any handy. (I ALWAYS have cheese handy)
according to my phone app, these pretty blossoms are called sweet mock orange
looked out my front door recently to find the setting sun tipping things with gold, the silky oak across the road,
the weeping white willow,
some of the bushes in the jungle that is the side garden
and this footpath tree across the road. Pretty, yes?
somewhere in Mexico (I think) is this 108 foot tall statue for the Day of the Dead celebration
her dress is a close match for Charlotte's Dusty Mauve colour of the month.
I found my one remaining Smurf statue (Smurfette actually) recently when I moved some furniture to a new position, she had fallen behind a bookshelf and got quite dusty.
walking to the shops recently I spotted three young crows (little ravens to be truthful), having a meeting on the road, by the time I had my phone out there were two and by the time I focused there was only one, Que Sera.
purple Jacarandas are everywhere (achoo!)
here is a closer look at the tubular blossoms
bottlebrush is still going strong, but most of the pollen is gone so it no longer bothers me
orange bouganvillea is blooming now
here's a closeup
and of course, November in Adelaide means ROSES!!
everywhere!! The red and white together are delightful, don't you think?
I look forward to seeing these ruffles every year
they grow in bunches on a single stem
and remind me of party dresses back in the 1950s, with the ruffles and layers of petticoats.

Pretty pictures, your flowers never stop delighting me. Thanks for using my colour, and thanks for showcasing Smurfette - even if in an angry looking version.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte; smurfette has a smile so I don't think she is angry, maybe batting her eyes at a Smurf.
DeleteIt's nice to see all the flowers down your way, at a time when we have virtually none here. I think that mock orange is the same one we have in our garden (Philadelphus). They get quite big! Is the blue-tongued lizard wild or a pet?
ReplyDeleteSteve Reed; It's good that our seasons are opposite so we can show flowers when you have none. This mock orange is quite small and probably pruned being at the edge of a driveway. The lizard is wild, but they will stick around if there is a food source. I have two in my own garden that live in gaps under the porch, but I don't feed them.
DeleteI am very sorry for your Brother (sometimes it´s a good decision, though) - but you made me laugh! Sounds in the first part like Bluey is divorced.... Glad he is taken care for!
ReplyDeleteOh! The Vegemite. I have three jars from fK´s wife. When to eat this and... NO ONE here likes it! (But me, .. on occasion.).
Yes. Those crackers helped me big, too.... cheese... ALWAYS. And the plate is beautiful!
To (nearly?) Summer and weee. The statue.
You have smurfs, too! I delivered newspapers to buy those, my parents were strict.
Crows/ravens might be in...? They yell at each other like crazy. Maybe they hate the early cold....Thank you for the earworm...
Wonderful flowers (though sorry for achoo!)
Iris; i was sorry too, but they are better apart. The vegemite will last you a long time. Most of my original Smurfs collection was the small rubbery plastic variety about 5cm tall, this Smurfette is a plaster moulded one abot 12cm tall. The Jacarandas have finished with the pollen part now so there is no more sneezing from them thank goodness.
DeleteThe crows/ravens were young ones only half grown, it was nice to see them. There are half grown magpies around now too.
The "Dead" lady dress is a great match for the Dusty Mauve. Your crackers remind me of my favorite, Premium Saltines. Yours look a bit bigger, with rounded corners. I mainly crumble them up in soup or chili, but they are good plain, and with a slice of extra-sharp cheddar.
ReplyDeleteVal; the dress is a good match, I didn't think I would be able to find anything in that colour. These crackers are plain, no salt and about 2 inches square. We have a saltines version called Saladas which are larger but perforated so can be broken into four smaller squares and they are salted and I also eat them with cheese and other toppings instead of bread.
DeleteAgreed! We eat challah bread every Friday night with the most formal dinner of the week. But otherwise it is always dry biscuits during the week - crispier, saltier and low in calories.
ReplyDeletehels; I used to eat bread every day, a sandwich for lunch, but lately I have been feeling queasy after eating bread of any kind, so I have switched to the crackers.
DeleteWhich Bluey came first, I wonder. We used to feed one a saucer of still warm milk at the dairy when we were kids.
ReplyDeleteNo purple patches in view here yet.
I like the 'jungle' photo, with the part sunlight.
Smurfs must be due for a reappearance. Kids loved them.
I love the flower photos, reminding me I should walk the local streets more often.
Andrew; my brother's Bluey is the oldest, and my two are an older but still young Bluey and a half grown baby. Your Jacarandas bloom later, in December I think. The sunlight was the setting sun at just the right angle, I almost never see it like that. I don't know if Smurfs would be popular, kids these day are all into Spiderman lately, even the twins are jumping around and landing in Spiderman poses.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad Bluey is still getting his weekly egg breakfast. It's tough being a child of divorce, LOL. And I saw that giant Day of the Dead Catrina on the internet too -- spectacular!
ReplyDeleteDebra She Who Seeks; R and V didn't have children and I suspect Bluey doesn't care as long as he gets his weekly egg. Daughter "no-one" sent me the Catrina pictures.
DeleteJacarandas are beautiful R, and so are those roses, red and white look magic together.
ReplyDeleteLovely selection and good trees there too. B doesn't eat toast for breakfast as he doesn't like the taste anymore and it's been like that for awhile now. I used to love Sao biscuits and still do and eat them as you do.
Margaret D; thank you, the jacarandas are beautiful, but not fallen blossoms are beginning to make a mess on footpaths, they really aren't a suitable street tree, but better than gum trees which randomly drop branches. I am out of Saos right now, but have a box of Saladas as back up.
DeleteThat lizard eats a healthier breakfast than I do
