Wednesday's Words on a Friday

Image
The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems. The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind. If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along and read it. This month the prompts are supplied by messymimi and can be found here . This week's words/prompts are:  1. thanks  2. incapable  3. suffering  4. memorial  5. aunt  6. front   and/or:   1. effect  2. admission  3. past  4. jaw  5. room  6. enhance   Here is my story:  Opening the front door I welcomed Aunt Lena (full name Helena, but she hated it). " Thanks for coming," I said. "I would have met you at the bus station, but I am incapable of leaving the house right now." "Nothing to worry about Lexi," said Lena. "I enjoyed the walk, all the bl

Not the sort of thing I usually see

I had an appointment with the ENT again this morning, the cauterised nose has been bleeding again, although nowhere near as profusely as last year, so I hauled myself out of bed at a respectable hour, had breakfast and headed to the bus stop. I was met halfway by  a neighbour who knew I was going and was told he would be my bodyguard. I said I didn't need bodyguarding, he said wait until you see what's at the bus stop. So we rounded the corner and there he was. A near-naked man, youngish, wearing a baseball cap, underpants and something on his feet that might have been thongs. He seemed to be off his head a bit, making agitated movements, constantly walking out into traffic and back again, picking up his back pack, putting it back on the seat, otherwise seemingly unable to stay still.  We hung back from the actual stop, not wanting to get too close, just in case he was more unstable than he seemed and I really hoped he wasn't going to get on the bus. But the bus arrived, I

Blogger friend Iris Flavia asked to see the photos of me holding a koala on the day I went to the Cleland Wildlife park with my friends J and J: these are from 2014, so I look a little different now, certainly my hair is much longer.

This week's words/prompts are: 1. brush 2. soar 3. distribute 4. allowance 5. debt 6. elegance here is my story: Paul sat on the corner of the bed and watched as Caitlin tried to brush her curly mop of fiery red hair. She looked at him through the mirror, noting the hang-dog look and sighed. "She's done it again, hasn't she Daddy?" "For a nine year old, she has remarkable insight," thought Paul. Out loud, he said "Yes she has and I do

Sunday Selections

Image
Elephant's Child expressed an interest in seeing my flowering Jade plants, they clearly think it is summer, so out I went with my camera here is the full length of the garden bed a little closer and here are the pretty pink and white stars the plum trees are losing their leaves now, the ground below is a lovely dark red carpet I replanted my three gollum plants together in one pot here you can see how the edges of each leaf has been chewed by snails or whatever else is out there my green aeoniums are doing well, I have three pots of these now the cuttings I took from the mesembryanthemum are doing well (aka livingstone daisy) but the parent plant, given to me by my brother as he left the state, is looking straggly still, it was infested with mealy bugs and very dried out in its tiny pot.  this curly leaved form of jade is looking a lot less bushy after spending the hot summer down in the garden bed to be shaded by the trees

here goes...trying the new blogger

I wasn't going to try this, thought I'd stick with the old style that is so easy and comfortable, but then I couldn't load a picture, so thought I might as well learn this new fandangled thing. If it allows me to post pictures, all well and good. If not, then that's the end of Sunday Selections for me. Huh! I get a message that says "no photos were found in your account. Please add photos and try reloading." What?  If anyone can tell me how to load photos to my account, from the zillions I already have stored on my computer, that would be helpful.  Up above the typing here there is an icon with tiny mountains in it, that means pictures, I know, but what is this "account" thing?  And where is the option to stick with the old style? Although that seems pointless if I can't add photos.

What a fabulous sight

Just seen on the evening news, Tuesday June 9th, around 64,000 green turtles swimming around one of the islands close to the Great Barrier Reef, just waiting for the right moment to come ashore and lay their eggs.  I heard Rain Island, but I could be wrong and I'm not sure if the spelling is correct. The film was taken from a helicopter I think, the water so blue and each turtle lit up by an iridescent marking on their backs, I think, put there by those counting and marking in previous years.  I did see a short clip of a huge turtle being marked by a man with a paint roller, so I'm guessing that's how it was done in years gone by.
