Wednesday's Words on a Friday

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems.

The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.

This month the words/prompts are supplied by Cindi and can be found here

This week's words/prompts are:

"You have the ability to mentally hear the honest answer to any question just by looking at the person and thinking the question. It was all fun and games until you looked in the mirror and asked a question you shouldn't have. What was the answer?"

 Here was my answer:

"Why would you even think to ask such a stupid question? Of course it is all your fault. No one forced you to sit for hours scrolling around the internet. No one forced you to eat family sized blocks of chocolate several times a week. You did that to yourself, all the while promising to be good the next day. Now put your shoes on and go for a long walk!"
As I bent to tie my laces, the cruel truth continued, "and stop buying those delicious cinnamon scrolls too."
And as I closed the front door behind me, another faint reminder, "you could stand to do a bit more vacuuming around here too."

  1. That voice has been speaking to me too. Loudly. I really, really need to listen to her too.

    1. Elephant's Child; she's at it again and I haven't even looked in the mirror! but I am eating chocolate while I type..

  2. Ha ha, I hear that voice--especially that last one a lot these days.

    1. Arkansas Patti; I hear her every time I look at the floor, but I'm putting off vacuuming because I'm down to my last vacuum bag and keep forgetting to buy more. I could empty it and reuse it, I've done that before, they're strong enough to be reused three times. My other excuse is not wanting to scare Lola, she keeps running from room to room to bet away from the cleaner.

  3. Oh! I'm going to have another Cherry Ripe!!! : After I have my almond-chocolate-coated Connoisseur ice cream, that is! )

The vacuuming can wait until another day!

    Take good care, River.

    1. Lee; the vacuuming has been waiting since before Christmas, I don't see how another couple of months can possibly make any difference now. Enjoy your treats.

    1. messymimi; I tell my voice to bug off quite often, she's a persistent little so-and-so.

    1. Dora; I hear plenty of times too, that's why I turn on the music or open the book of crossword puzzles.

  6. Vacuuming is overrated. reading your stories on the 'net and writing stories myself is much nicer - and a god cup of tea to accompany us.

    1. Charlotte; as my daughter often says, "vacuuming sucks". We'd both rather do anything else.

  7. I am so familiar with that inner voice I don't even need a mirror!

    Well done!

    1. WWW; I don't need a mirror either, but I'm used to tuning her out now.

  8. Oh. Bad, bad memories. Bad ones. Because the professor talked nastily to a fellow student (so bad she cried) I threw my work-"problems" at him, asking for solutions (that´s his job, right), waiting only a very short time to throw the NEXT and NEXT at him.
He didn´t cry, but the students watched!
I stomped away in success.. in... oh. Shouldn´t have done this.

In the end, though, it was the right thing to do.

    1. Iris Flavia; good for you. Sometimes those professors need to be taken down from their high horse. Get a dose of their own bullying medicine.

    2. My real name is Kaiser, "Empereur", and at that moment I felt like one. But guess who won. He was still on his high horse...
In the aftermath: OK! (But dumbness can hurt, LOL and what is it with pride and the falling down...)

  9. Ugh - that voice comes from my mirror, too. Really not just from the mirror, it's all around me. My body is not happy with me. Not enough exercise and too many salty, sugary treats.

The vacuuming, though - that's a bridge too far - if we do it now we'll just have to do it again in six months :)

    1. jenny_o; my point exactly, if I don't do it now, no one will ever know the floor can look different and six or even twelve months can go by. I do pick up the dust rolls as they get blown around by the fan. Not enough exercise is my problem too. I have laid off the sugary treats a bit though.

  10. You have given yourself a good talking to there looking in that mirror.
    Take care.

    1. Margaret D; I give myself a good talking to at least once a year, sometimes twice :)

  11. Oh, no! I would have to jam my fingers in my ears and start singing TRA LA LA until that mental voice stopped. I guess I can't actually jam my fingers into my brain...

At least you didn't find a third of a stick of BUTTER that had been laying around since Christmas!

    1. Val; I've become quite good at ignoring that voice, my usual method is to start reading a book I can't put down or mentally sing a favourite song over and over. Sticks of butter never lay around here too long, they get used.

  12. This voice sounds bossy but seems to be reminding you to eat more somehow. Cinnamon scrolls - I thought they are call rolls, here in the US, anyway.

    Have a lovely day.
