Sunday Selections # 739

Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.

The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I join in as do a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.

Wisewebwoman has also been joining us more often.

Beginning today with the Haighs #1 Chocolate van:

The company was celebrating a birthday

and I heard later on the TV news they were giving out free chocolates, but not while I was there...😢 Oh well, I'm quite fat enough still, I don't need more chocolate.

Love the carriage lamps,

and the leather seat.

here's the back of the van, 110 years!

a little further along Rundle Mall is this Sushi Train, maybe it's new or maybe I just never noticed it, possibly newish, I don't get to the city very often. Might pop in there one day and see what they've got.

further along again is our "fan dancer", an elderly Asian woman with slow music and movements and always a happy face. I don't usually have spare coins but I did that day and dropped them all in her bucket.

just around the corner and down the street a bit, this new house is going up, I didn't realise just how big it is until I saw this side view, I didn't get it all in this one photo.

Roses are going gangbusters right now with the autumn flush in full bloom in every street

my small white geranium has four blooms this year instead of just one.

Lola is sticking quite close after the two nights I had to spend away from home

three dawn clouds photos

from way back

in 2019.

here's me playing with the girls just last week

we were so excited to see each other after so many weeks, but they soon settled down. Not for long though, they had me outside, pushing them on their swings. Then they were singing and dancing along with Moana.

  1. Those little girls are growing up so fast.
The van is wonderful - very uncomfortable to ride in, no doubt, but so attractive.

    1. jabblog; they are. It's hard to believe they are not even three until next month! I love the van, and it looks quite comfortable to me, it's isn't made for speed that's for sure. I see it sometimes in the Christmas parades.

  2. Awww, Lola! The fan dancer seems like a cheerful presence -- glad you could spare her some change. :)

    1. Steve Reed; Lola is happy enough now to sleep all day on the bed, but as soon as the TV goes on at 6pm, she is right there waiting for me to spread the blanket.
The fan dancer is there a lot, unless the weather is too cold or it's raining and usually I give my coins to other buskers who play music that I like. I'll have to be sure and take extra coins from now on.

    1. Linda's Relaxing Lair; the girls are adorable and also so filled with energy, always on the run, climbing, dancing, swinging. Lola and I have finally become comfortable together after almost 9 years. I love the van too and I love the Haighs chocolates, very expensive, but worth every cent. Thank you.

    1. Val; it is a cute little van and I love seeing it trundling around the streets now and then. Lola was quite upset after my first night away, so I had someone stay with her for the second night but she still missed me. I never thought we would get so close after the troublesome first years. Can you believe those girls are still only two?? Their third birthday is next month and they are fast growing out of size 4 clothes!

  5. The Chocolate van probably costs quite a bit more today than when it was built.

  6. Haighs chocolates are GOOD. When I go into that part of the city (rare) I often pick some up for himself. Love that van.
I am so glad that you got to see the twins again. And admire your ability to get down to the floor and back up again.
Yay Lola. Our late lamented Medlyn realised how much he loved me when I spent a couple of nights away from him (in hospital).
Love the dawn and the roses.

    1. Elephant's Child; Haighs are excellent chocolates. I used to get a few as a weekly treat, but can no longer afford them that often. It's more like once or twice a year now. The twins were so excited to see me and even one of the older brothers said it was nice to see me again. I think I am still able to get up and down easily because I do it every day, Lola can't clean out her own litter tray, so it's up to me. I'm happy Lola has become so settled and willing to cuddle.
The roses have been wonderful but at last many are beginning to fade, though the pink ones are still standing tall, I can see them from my window. I found the dawn photos by accident when looking for something else which I still haven't found.

    1. jeanie; I didn't notice the price there and rarely buy sushi, but I think I will get some next time I'm in town. Our skies are almost always wonderful.

  8. You´re not fat, what are you talking about (OK I am, too! But from Pizza & co)....
    Such a cool vehicle!
And yes. When people DO something, I give, too. Here we have many who just sit there with a sign "I am hungry".
Yah, no. No one in Germany needs to be hungry, they want money for alcohol or whatever.
    Musicians, artists, I do give.
Oh, Lola sure loves you!! See... that´s why I watch but videos...
    Beautiful dawn-pics.
And FUN with the girls, so nice!!! I was rejected this mostly by SIL. I enjoy you sharing yours!

    1. Iris; true I'm not fat, but still have a few kilos to lose before I can fit my jeans again.
I don't always give, I don't always have coins and don't like to give notes, I need those myself.
I had a great time with the girls but after being away all the weeks with the surgery and eye drops I got tired very quickly.

  9. I wondered if the van was drivable and discovered it is a replica of the original 1920s van. Also, you can buy a toy replica for $55. So there are two useless facts for you but is the replica drivable? Unlikely. Haighs is excellent chocolate, but oh so expensive. I am always extra friendly with the staff to ensure I get my free sample.

    1. Andrew; I have seen that van trundling around the city, sometimes in the Christmas pageant, other times going somewhere for some event or other. Woyuld Ibuy a replica from the chocolate shop? I'll have to find out. The chocolate is ezpensive but worth the cost in my opinion. Can you believe I sometimes turn down the free sample?

  10. Looks good the chocolate van and it's a shame you missed out on the free chocolate.
The girls are growing and it's great to be a part of their journey in life - thanks.
    Happy Mother's Day R.

    1. Margaret D; I didn't mind so much missing out on free chocolate, they always offer a free taste when you go in store and buy some and I often say no thank you.
The girls are growing and they are ready to try anything, participation and learning tells me they will do well at school when the time comes.

  11. The new house that is going up will be terrific when all the junk out the front is removed. The long glass windows in the front and side will let the sun shine in perfectly.

  12. How nice to be with your girls again. I'm sure they were so excited to see you! - My Dad spent a lot of time overseas and when he came back (stateside) he said our chocolate tasted like wax. Lol. He was always in search of the places that made real chocolates. - Lola looks so comfy. Happy Sunday!

    1. MMM; I've tried different chocolate over the years and some is like wax and some is just indescribable and awful, some is cardboardy. I like our Haighs, also Belgian and Swiss chocolate, though I rarely buy those and our supermarkets have a chocolate made in New Zealand which is quite good quality, though $8 for a family sized block, so when I buy one I make it last by not eating a bit every day like I used to. I quit buying Cadbury back in the mid 90s when they began adding palm oil, (they still do but now they call it vegetable oil,) and less actual cocoa.
