Sunday Selections # 741
Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.
A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.
Nothing rude or vulgar though.
And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.
The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I join in as do a few others. Andrew is one. Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.
Wisewebwoman has also been joining us more often.
beginning today with the crossing of Grange Road/Manton Street, over the underpass of South Road at Hindmarsh and West Hindmarsh. I had reason to go out there recently and stared again at the design:
taken from the Manton Street side looking at the section of fence protecting people from jumping or falling into the South side of the underpass
a tiny, tiny, flower on my way to the shops last week, it is only about one inch long, not including the stamens.
similar flowers, a bit blurry I think, the wind WAS blowing, these are double the size and the leaves on the bush are completely different, yet the flowers are so similar.
I was astonished and worried to see this pram left on a corner where it could easily roll into traffic, no people were around,
and then relieved to find it was just abandoned and filled with unwanted things. No baby in danger here.
all of these baking trays and cake pans live inside my oven because there just isn't anywhere else I can put them, so every time I want to use the oven I have to move them out and put them back when I'm finished and the oven has cooled. This is one reason why I don't bake much anymore.
this is me at work 27 years ago, sticking brand labels into school shoes for girls. I was so skinny I actually had a neck and visible collarbones. The "masked man" was one of our bosses, the first to leave a year before the company shut down and moved overseas.
the twins third birthday is in ten days time and I took two of these out to them last week, One each so they don't fight. "no-one" came with me and brought them something for inside playing:
How lovely! A basketball court outside and a hospital indoors. Who could ask for anything more?
ReplyDeletejabblog; they do have a lot of play options.
DeleteThose are the doctors I would trust!
ReplyDeleteLinda Sue; they are very gentle doctors.
DeleteIf one gets an injury playing basketball, her sister can doctor her up! Those are fun gifts.
ReplyDeleteVal; that's an excellent idea.
Delete27 years ago you had a lovely smile. Perhaps you were also a "hottie"! I notice that you were wearing a basketball sweatshirt and that you bought the twins their own basketball nets. Maybe you played basketball for your country?
ReplyDeleteYorkshire Pudding. thank you, the sweatshirt is actually a t-shirt, oversized for coolness while working, I didn't play basketball, but my youngest son did at school and still has a hoop in his back yard. I'm thinking he will enjoy teaching the girls how to throw and dribble when they get a bit older.
DeleteMost small children know how to dribble naturally. That's why we make them wear bibs.
Delete😂
DeleteI can just hear the conversation in the engineering office about the fence. "I don't know! Just put something up! We'll worry about making it look nice later."
ReplyDeleteMike; probably you are right as well as "whatever is cheapest".
DeleteThat fence is hideous.
ReplyDeleteLove the twin's gifts - and your smile.
Elephant's Child; thank you and that fence is hideous.
DeleteSweet post and I love all the photos. The cats are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLinda's Relaxing Lair; thank you, just one cat though, I can't afford to feed more than that.
DeleteThe girls are being very cute.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see the old photo of you.
Lola is almost in singe territory.
You are correct about the intersection. It is so ugly.
Andrew; Thank you. The girls are always cute when I am there, but I've heard they throw a tantrum or two lately. Lola is always in singe territory, that's why I turn off the lower bar. That fence really is ugly, even a lick of paint would help.
DeleteLooks quite warm there.
ReplyDeleteDora; it was a sunny day but the wind was cool.
DeleteThe fence is ugly and you are beautiful. (Yes, you still are, it has nothing to do with weight and everything to do with who you are.)
ReplyDeleteThe girls will get a lot of exercise with the basketball goals, and as for the doctor kits, that's a great gift. Someone gave Grandpa a doctor kit for his 3rd birthday and it sparked his love of medicine and he said he would be a real doctor someday. He did become a doctor. They might fall in love with the medical field as well.
messymimi; thank you, I know the weight is irrelevant but I do feel better having lost some and not feeling as if all my clothes are shrink-wrapped to my body. The girls get plenty of exercise already with the trampoline and the swing set and generally just running. I'll be interested to find out what they eventually become, but it's up to them to decide. Whatever they choose is fine with me.
DeleteDoctors' equipment and uniforms are excellent, especially if the children think they would like to do medicine, nursing, physio or masseurship one day. Or put them into overalls to protect them from car mechanics greasiness.
ReplyDeleteHels; I htink they are a bit young yet to be deciding, but it's a good idea to give them options.None of us drive so there is little chance they'd be into mechanics of any kind. They do love music.
DeleteWhat a great contrast,
ReplyDeletethe unkempt fence with the beautiful flower!!
What wonderful doctors, fantastic gift!!
Katerinas Blog; thank you.
DeleteWell, if I was about to commit suicide cause I am depressed... boy.... you leave alive but even more depressed!
ReplyDeleteHow??? Why, this is horrible!
In Perth I saw a sign - sadly no pic or I´d spend hours searching:
At the tracks: "You want to end your life? Be aware THIS might happen: pic of a young person in a wheelchair" and a number to seek help.
Maybe contact the city? They cannot get better if they don´t know what people feel about this....
Isn´t Australia in the metric system? Glad I have my frog that has cm and inch! Also the nurse in Joondalup gave me directions in feet. Glad I watch American Football - can you explain?
I´m so with Lola. 13C. Brrrr. Heating still on!
Some people are dumb - if that thing really rolls in the street the driver etc ... I don´t wanna picture this.
LOL. You stole our oven?!
Why was your boss wearing a mask?
We have a tiny basketball net at the inside of our very small toilet at the door. Ingo, huh...
Good job! We need so many more doctors! Scrubs I have here, too :-)
Iris; I don't understand your suicide depression sentences. Is it about that pram left on the street corner? It had no baby, just a lot of junk that no one wants. Australia IS in the metric system, but I wrote the flower size in inches for my US readers. I know the rest of you can easily convert to centimetres.
DeleteMy boss wasn't wearing a mask, I blacked out his face on the picture to protect his identity, after so many years I don't know if he would want to be seen on the internet.
I hope the girls like the basketball nets. The pole can be adjusted for height as they grow and the balls are included in the box.
You wrote "protecting people from jumping or falling into the South side of the underpass"... And the pram... imagine it goes off into the street... a hectic car driver like me might cause an accident and hurt others!
DeleteHm. So. Your US readers are more important! (kidding!!!!)
LOL on the mask.
Let's hope they do something and make that fence or sort nicer, doesn't look good like that but it's better than nothing there.
ReplyDeleteLove the Dr.'s outfits, little ones often like to play Dr's.
The flowers are nice and you look happy in the photo.
Margaret D; the fence has been like that for years, I don't think anything more will be done. It's effective so probably doesn't need to be nice too. The girls liked the doctor kits very much. Thank you, I was very happy in that job.
DeleteI agree about the fence. In the second photo, it looks like the concrete (I think) wall between the houses and the roadway also has a sort of staggered-height, topsy turvy look to it. Do you suppose they were trying to replicate that with the fencing? (In which case it didn't work.)
ReplyDeleteIt's very New York-y of you to store things in your oven. New Yorkers with tiny apartments are famous for doing that. :)
Steve Reed; I didn't take notice of the concrete fencing, it may just be a case of inddividual homes have different heights for their fences. Like New Yorkers, my apartment is also tiny with very little storage space, not even a linen closet! So things get packed in wherever they fit, with much of the excess in lidded crates in the locked garage which is a five minute walk away down behind the blocks of flats.
Deletethe baking trays..... brilliant..... i have a cupboard full of tins and stuff..... and always when the last one or two get washed up they never seem to fit right...... maybe i also need to start storing them in the over or the grill that we never use!!
ReplyDeleteArcticFox; store them wherever they fit, under the bed even! I have stuff stored inside a cabinet on the back porch as well as a stash in my locked garage. Work out which ones you use the most and keep those handy.
DeleteThe masked man. lolololol. That's a hoot.
ReplyDeleteThe Happy Whisk; after I masked him I got to thinking I should have just done a Zorro style. He was one of the friendliest bosses I ever had. always willing to listen and help solve any job related problems.
