Wednesday's Words on a Friday

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems.

The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.

If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words.

This month the words/prompts are supplied by David M.Gascoigne and can be found here

This week's words/prompts are:

1.people  2.overjoyed  3.single  4.chore  5.life

and/or:

1.birthday  2.plight  3.juggle  4.dog  5.play

Here is my story:

It’s been a heck of a year so far. Several of my people (family and friends), have had medical problems. Some just one single thing gone wrong, others suffering the plight of three or four things all at once.

Learning to juggle appointments, doctors, time schedules, is never fun and after a few months of this, life itself often becomes a chore.

A few of my nicest neighbours have been in and out of hospital more than once, others have RDNS nurses visiting daily or weekly as they recover from what ailed them. I frequently see an ambulance arriving or leaving.

Since late March I have had far too many such appointments myself, some at my own request, such as the cataract removals, others “foisted upon me” by doctors who worry that my blood pressure and cholesterol readings are still on the high side, though steady and not alarmingly rising or falling.

Well, the blood pressure is steady at least.

Going hither and yon almost on a daily basis leaves little time for play once the usual household jobs are done and groceries purchased, then a ping on my phone reveals yet another reminder.

Some days I feel like a dog with too many instructions from too many masters, turning and turning and not knowing which thing to do first.

If I get everything done and over with by my birthday I will be overjoyed.

    1. jabblog; thank you, one problem is already behind me, no gallstones, though that creates its own new problem, what's up with my liver?

  2. I posted already at Sue's site but wanted to send this to you:

James examined the calendar with joy; in fact, he was overjoyed. My birthday! Tomorrow!

He called for his dog Randy to play with him. It wasn’t easy, as James had to juggle a ball and his walker. It wasn’t a plight anymore---the accident last year required him to juggle events in his life. James had contemplated how his life had changed in those 3 seconds when he fell.

Every single moment of his day had become a chore, something to plan where he put his feet when he struggled with the walker. “Does anyone know how hard it is to be me?”

The next morning when he sat in the kitchen, James heard singing, loud robust singing. He carefully moved around to the window when he saw the most amazing sight
People from town had gathered and prepared a party for James. Gasping, James trembled with joy. His birthday had not been forgotten! He had not been forgotten.

Being remembered is the greatest gift of all.

  4. Well written. I understand your dilemmas so very well. We used to call our dr. appts "cheap dates" but soon learned they were not cheap. I hope you do well at your next appts.

    1. Susan Kane; "cheap dates" ha ha. Some of my visits are cheap, we have medicare here in Australia and for certain things those over a certain age pay nothing.

    1. messymimi; thank you and I also hope to be appointment free soon. I have to arrange a skin cancer check because I have never had one, but don't have anything on my skin that is alarming me, so hopefully that will also go well.

  6. Sadly a true story for once. Ack. My app is lurking (feet, I need to take care!!!) and Ingo refuses to visit my doc for a second opinion. Getting old or die, right. Also fairies do not give up!!!! No matter how small the wings!

    1. Iris; I hope there is something that can be done for your feet, perhaps some way to check the blood circulation to be sure it is reaching your feet properly? It's true, Fairies never give up, so I will keep all doctor appointments to find out why the cholesterol numbers are high.
Why does Ingo not going to your doctor? Does he not want to be informed so he can be helpful?
