Sunday Selections #746
Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.
A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.
Nothing rude or vulgar though.
And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.
The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I join in as do a few others. Andrew is one. Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.
Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.
Beginning today with my floor:
brown speckled cream in colour, the squiggly black lines are cracks, this floor was already old when I moved in not quite 14 years ago
there are more and bigger cracks now, this is the doorway between kitchen on the left and living room on the right, the kitchen floor is sinking....I rolled a marble to check.
Still, it's a roof over my head and beggars can't be choosers.
But we can dream, right?
this is under the windowsill of the upstairs flat/unit/
there's a second mud nest at the other end of the sill. On a warm day I can sit by my window and watch the wasps flitting about.
remember the mini focaccia? I filled them with cheese, olives, red onion and extra strong garlic aioli, so yum!
finally... Lola exercising; stretch and....
Amazing and captivating photos! Lola, the rainbow lorikeet, everything! :)
ReplyDeleteLinda's Relaxing Lair; thank you.
DeletePear season sounds good to me! I get that about the floors. We have a mishmosh here at the moment. The spikey plants looks cool.
ReplyDeleteThe Happy Whisk; I love pear season, and the summer fruits too, peaches and apricots. The spikey plants will feature again when the flowers bloom.
DeleteUma variedade de assuntos.
ReplyDeleteGostei muito do pássaro vermelho.
Abraço de amizade.
Juvenal Nunes
Juevenal Nunes; thank you, The red bird is quite common here in several states,
DeleteThe rainbow lorikeet is an eastern rosella. Beautiful birds aren't they?
ReplyDeleteYour lunch looks excellent.
Not only can a girl dream a girl should dream.
Elephant's Child; I knew I had the bird wrong but couldn't remember the true name. I have written it down now which should help. The lunch was delicious. I dream daily of a proper house with a yard and of course decent flooring and storage options. Here I don't even have a linen closet, yet every other flat does.
DeleteIt seems very fair wear and tear and should be replaced. Disintegrating floor coverings are a trip hazard for older people, which you should point out when requesting new floor coverings.
ReplyDeleteThe rosella almost looks fake.
Andrew; I agree it should be replaced and in most cases flooring is replaced when one tenant moves out and before a new tenant move in, but thta wasn't the case here. I was desperate at the time and when offered this I agreed right away so they slapped on a coat of paint (over existing bird poops etc) and handed me the keys. The flooring can't be replaced now without moving out all the furniture, and the tall dvd shelves are bolted to the wall for safety. So far the cracks are flat and not a hazard.
DeleteThe rosella does almost look fake but he is very real, "no-one" says he flew away soon after the photo was taken.
Such a beautiful bird, but I am more intrigued with your sandwich. It looks and sounds delicious with those ingredients! Lola seems quite content with the flooring. We have both the wasps and the mud daubers (as we call them here). I can't really tell the difference if they are away from their nests. I spray the wasp nests around the porch, but don't bother with the mud daubers, since they won't sting.
ReplyDeleteVal; the sandwich was delicious though tiny. Cats don't care about flooring as long as they can lie where they please. I can't tell which wasp is which either, but if they dare to build nests too close to my door I sweep them away as soon as I spot them. These are way up high where I can't reach.
DeleteEveryone should dream - why not?
ReplyDeleteLandlords can be fairly ruthless - it's most unfair, but Lola seems happy enough with the flooring.
The aeoniums are interesting - I bet they look pretty with their yellow flowers. I do like succulents.
The little bird is so pretty. It must look like a flying paintbrush.
jabblog; I dream a lot, it's a nice escape. I live in public housing, government subsidised, so we get the cheapest of cheap options, but at least it's a home. I'll be taking photos when those flower spikes bloom.
DeleteRiver, really?! My tenant would rip my head off or other... I would never rent out such crap!
ReplyDeleteMy first rented one-room-apartment here in Braunschweig had ( better) vinyl, too.
My Brother said: No!
We went to the hardware store, got laminate panels and in no time I had something nice.
One arvo is all it took.
OK I paid that myself but it really wasn´t that expensive, maybe your Son can help?
Or, in this case... I would really go to the management and complain! This is NOT OK!
Wasps are not good, either...
That is one clever, beautiful bird. Apart from the garlic... YUM, you make me hungry!
And Lola... I slept in today, too...
No really. I would complain or look it up online what you can do to complain properly, that is not OK.
Iris; this isn't a private rental, it's government subsidised public housing, maintenance is minimal, repairs have to wait their turn unless it is an emergency and things like flooring have to wait until a tenant moves out unless it is REALLY bad and mine isn't so bad. There's nothing sticking up that I could trip over. Getting it replaced, even if I pay (too much $$$) and get it done, means moving ALL my furniture and there is nowhere to move it to. I have bookshelves filled with books, they would have to be emptied to move and other big pieces that would need to be emptied and moved and the DVD shelves are bolted to the wall! It's far too much work. Many people live with much worse conditions.
DeleteThe wasps aren't bothering anyone. They aren't the dangerous European wasps.
Wow, I´ve never heard of such a system here. The dude who lives next street has never worked since we live here (2011) is not disabled in any way. Has a huge TV on his wall (window always wide open cause heavy smoker)... The state (we) pay for this.
DeleteSad you can´t do nothing about it!!!
Well. The pre-owners had the tiles done in the kitchen by the cheapest company ever, I often trip. Ingo wants new ones, but as you: I am not willing to get everything out, that would mean the whole kitchen and the chamber, too. I´d rather trip now and then. Keeps us fit ;-)
The Rosella is looking wonderful, such a beautiful colour/s.
ReplyDeleteThat Lino could become dangerous, could trip on it.
Lola is enjoying herself, bless her.
Good selection as always, R.
Margaret D; the rosella is beautiful and so bright. The flooring isn't so bad, nothing is sticking up to trip over, it's just very old and worn. Lola is on the sunny windowsill right now.
Deletei also have some very old, scratched-up, vinyl flooring in my kitchen - could do with a refresh
ReplyDeleteArcticFox; I have it right through my place except the laundry/bathroom which is tiled. Essentially two rooms and a microscopic kitchen, not too bad overall, just looking not-so-nice.
DeleteI am always afraid of putting on weight, so sweets these days have consisted largely of fresh fruit. Apples, oranges and mandarins are fine, but a bit boring. Strawberries and blackberries are expensive. And pears are scrumptious.
ReplyDeletehels; I have just lost 12-13kg and have no intention of putting it back on, still need to lose another 10kg at least, so I'm happy when pear season is here and in summer it's nectarines, peaches and strawberries. Bananas when they are fresh too, but not the tasteless cold storage ones.
DeleteAww wasps! I hope they're more peaceful than out wasps are. I'd have plled down or squashed those nests on sight. Fresh pears are so tasty! ... your floors look like mine minus cracks but plus holes ;)
ReplyDeleteCharlotte; the wasps are natives and are rarely troublesome. I squash any nests that are too close to my door, I don't want wasps flying in whenever I open it, but these are way up high and no trouble. I'm having pears for lunch today and an apple.
DeleteThose wasps still pack a punch - and are lethal to my brother so we have always been very wary with wasps! I know that my SIL in housing has redone her floors, but it may have been her input and energy rather than the government. Amazing bird! We have nothing like that here, although we do get the green, blue and red lorikeets.
ReplyDeletejeanie; the do pack a punch, I once got stung between my nose and upper lip when I disturbed a nest that I didn't know was there. I was pulling down a jasmine vine because I am allergic and the wasp nest was inside it. The Eastern Rosella is only in Victoria I think and maybe NSW.
DeleteIt been sometime but I use to make pear pie.
ReplyDeleteDora; I have never made pear pie, only apple. I prefer to just eat the fruit most of the time.
DeleteThat lorikeet shot is remarkable, I love it. Also your scone.
ReplyDeleteXO
WWW
WWW; I made a mistake, the lorikeet is actuall an Eastern Rosella, but both are bright and colourful. The "scone" is a mini focaccia made from leftover pizza dough. And it was delicious.
